■Toward the creation of a new culture in Taiwan

We first entered Taiwan in 2012 with the opening of "TSUTAYA Yayi Yingyin ", focusing on DVD and CD rentals.

Since 2017, we have expanded the opening of "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE" stores. Currently, there are a total of 11 "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE" stores in Taiwan, led by the local subsidiary Taiwan TSUTAYA Corporation ("Taiwan TSUTAYA"), two of which also have a "SHARE LOUNGE". (As of December 2023)

The per capita purchase rate for "books" in Taiwan is about half that of Japan. However, the culture surrounding bookstores is not very different from that of Japan, with many people demanding bookstores in their towns, the rise of independent bookstores, lively events at bookstores, and a preference for spending time in bookstores with a cup of coffee.

Many Taiwanese people are pro-Japanese and are highly interested in Japanese culture, including space, food, and anime content, and many are happy to be able to experience Japanese culture while in Taiwan.

Furthermore, the perception of "Japanese bookstore = Daikanyama TSUTAYABOOKS" is spreading. While aiming to realize the Japanese "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE" in Taiwan, our local subsidiary Taiwan TSUTAYA is not only conveying Japanese culture, but also respecting Taiwan's identity and fusing it with their own culture to develop a Taiwan original "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE" that supports Taiwan's cultural development. We are developing Taiwan's original "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE" to support Taiwan's cultural development.

■Awarded at the Businness Alliance Conference

TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE has opened 11 stores since 2017, 7 of which opened (and renovated) in the Corona Disaster after 2020. As a Japanese company that has made a significant impact on Taiwan's struggling domestic economy, TSUTAYA was honored in December 2023 by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan Government at the Business Alliance Conference held by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Taiwanese government in December 2023.

These store openings are supported by franchise companies in Taiwan. All overseas stores, including those in Taiwan, are operated by franchise companies. In order to gain understanding of our brand, Taiwan Tsutaya has been walking around talking about our philosophy in various forums, gaining sympathy, and increasing the number of partners who will work together to grow the TSUTAYA brand in Taiwan.

Currently, the majority of our members are developers who have high expectations for TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE's ability to attract customers and the ripple effect it can have on the entire facility. (Number of member companies: 7 as of December 2023)

■Growth of local employees in Taiwan

Furthermore, locally hired employees are supporting the accelerated store openings. At our stores in Taiwan and other overseas locations, local customers are more receptive to proposals that combine local culture and originality with a deep understanding of the concepts of "TSUTAYA" and "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE" and Japanese culture that we can offer because we are the best at what we do.

In the future, we aim to further develop hybrid human resources who understand both Japanese and Taiwanese cultures and can make proposals unique to Taiwan, and eventually local employees in Taiwan will be in charge of managing Taiwan TSUTAYA.

■Future Expansion of Taiwan Business

Taiwan TSUTAYA will continue to expand the opening of TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE in Taiwan, and at the same time, is currently expanding the scope of its other businesses.

For example, it is developing businesses that leverage the assets of the CCC Group, such as space design and book selection services for condominiums and hotels, POP UP store openings at outdoor events, and art sales at art galleries in Taiwan in collaboration with CCC Art Lab.

In addition, in collaboration with GREEN FUNDING, a crowdfunding service operated by group company One More, we support crowdfunding proposals by Taiwanese companies and implement programs to support startup companies from Taiwan to enter the Japanese market, thereby acting as a bridge between business in Japan and Taiwan. The company also plays the role of a bridge between Japan and Taiwan.
