DDD (Daikanyama Design Department)
“Learn, Think and Enjoy” Design – Bookstore Event
DAIKANYAMA TSUTAYA BOOKS held a store-wide design event called "Daikanyama Design Department 2013 (DDD)" from October 23 to November 4, 2013. The event was timed to coincide with "Tokyo Designers Week," Japan's largest design festival.
The bookstore venue for DDD served as a cultural device to expose books and creators while touting the DDD theme: "learning, understanding, thinking and enjoying." Visitors also had the chance to procure their own works by "choosing and buying" design.
Two events stood out during the long series of popular exhibitions and events held at DDD. The first was "blue rooms by nendo," an exhibition of 30 new and unreleased works by "nendo," a luminary in the design industry. Next was "Dento to Watashi (Tradition and Me)," a collection of designs on "Tradition and Present" from hot designers working in cross genres, including MARUWAKAYA, mame, Momoko Ando, and KUTANI CHOEMON (or Kamide Choemon-gama).
