—'You're Beautiful' and 'Sungkyunkwan Scandal' have expanded the audience to include viewers in their teens and twenties—

TSUTAYA (as of April 2011, with 1,410 stores), which proposes lifestyles to customers through books, movies, music, and more, saw a record-breaking 12.14 million rentals of Korean TV dramas in May 2011, significantly exceeding previous records. This surpassed the rental figures for the Western film genre (10.39 million rentals/May 2011) and the Japanese film genre (7.91 million rentals/May 2011). The cumulative number of rentals since January 2011 has exceeded 52 million, significantly surpassing last year's record of over 100 million rentals annually.

The reason why Korean television dramas have continued to break their own records since last year is that they have gained strong support from women in their teens and twenties, expanding their audience base. This includes "Sungkyunkwan Scandal," which ranked first in the cumulative ranking of Korean dramas from January to May 2011, and "You're Beautiful," starring Jang Geun-suk, which is popular among young women.

TSUTAYA will continue to strengthen its selection of Korean TV dramas, which are highly requested by a wide range of customers from their teens to those over 60, by developing private-label products and other measures to better satisfy our customers.
