Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda) is pleased to announce that the total number of T-CARD transactions for the year from January to December 2011 reached a record high of 1,572,740,000*1 (105% compared to the previous year) for its T-POINT service, Japan's largest shared point service.
In 2011, consumer spending experienced a temporary decline due to the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake on consumer sentiment. However, it began to recover from June, and from October onward, transaction volume increased across many industry sectors among T-POINT partner companies. Under these circumstances, the record number of T-CARD transactions was driven by the gradual introduction of T-POINT services at local small and medium-sized stores and drugstores starting in April 2011. As a result, the number of T-POINT partner stores increased by 20% year-on-year to 42,157 by the end of December 2011, expanding opportunities for T-POINT to be used in daily life.
In 2011, new and innovative applications of T-POINT expanded, including collaborations with food manufacturers such as Bourbon and Nissui, the introduction of T-POINT in Aplus's shopping credit program, and the adoption of T-POINT for employee benefits by temporary staffing agencies. In 2011, a total of 17 companies, including APLUS, NISSOU KOUSAN, SK Marketing & Company (Korea), YKK AP, Drug Eleven, MTI, Opt, Toppan Printing, Bridgestone Sports, and Suruga Bank, launched the T-POINT service. T-POINT is a shared point service usable across 80 companies and 122 brands nationwide.*2 Furthermore, the number of active T-CARD users in the past year on a consolidated basis*3 reached 38.58 million, an increase of 2.07 million compared to the same month last year.
*1 The number of transactions includes point earnings, redemptions, and exchanges.
*2 As of the end of December 2011
*3 If a customer holds multiple T-CARDs, they are counted as one unique user with all cards consolidated.
