Results of the "Masterpiece Reissue Request" announced: The film most eagerly awaited by movie fans was 'My Friend Forever' - 7 films selected from the submissions will be reissued as part of TSUTAYA's Hidden Gems series.

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., which operates 1,464 TSUTAYA stores nationwide, solicited requests for DVD releases of movies that people want to see again but are currently unavailable in stores due to being out of print or not yet released. The request was made through the "TSUTAYA Discoveries: Masterpiece Restoration Request" campaign from November 18, 2011 to January 31, 2012. As a result, they received 7,221 requests from movie fans, with "My Friend Forever" receiving the most votes.

In response to requests for specific titles, TSUTAYA's "Hidden Gems" program, various DVD manufacturers, and related parties are working together to bring these titles to DVD. We have received many requests for this title in the past, and in particular, many customers have requested "The Cure" (original title: My Friend Forever) to be included in this "Hidden Gems" program, which will be available for rental starting June 8, 2012.

From among the titles that received the most votes, the following have been selected for reissue as unearthed, high-quality copies: Harold and Maude, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Outfit, Hard Boiled, The Mechanic, and Thief.

"TSUTAYA Hidden Gems" is a special sales area in stores that features films that are not well-known or readily available, but rather "interesting but little-known" or "films that are hard to find" rather than "famous films" or "films that are available in every store." These films are evaluated by 100 film enthusiasts from both inside and outside TSUTAYA based on whether they are "interesting."

In selecting our film catalog, we have been working with various DVD manufacturers and related parties through the "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems" project to revive and re-release films that are actually interesting but have been discontinued on VHS and disappeared from stores, or films that have not yet been released on DVD.
We will continue to carefully select from the works requested this time, and proceed with unearthing and developing high-quality works in order to resolve any issues related to rights and other matters.

The progress of the reprints of the requested works will be posted on the Facebook page "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems," which was launched today.
We will provide updates on our fan page and Twitter (@100nin_eiga2). While we will do our utmost to accommodate your requests, please understand that due to rights-related issues, not all requested works will necessarily be released on DVD.

TSUTAYA will continue to develop various initiatives to provide everyone who enjoys movies with more opportunities to discover interesting films.
