—Opening February 24th at TSUTAYA YuING Hanaoka Store (Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture)—

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda) is pleased to announce that the number of stores offering comic book rentals at its nationwide franchised "TSUTAYA" chain has reached 500 with the opening of TSUTAYA YuING Hanaoka Store (Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture; operated by Higuchi Co., Ltd.) today, February 24, 2012. Please note that comic rentals are available at approximately one-third of the 1,466 TSUTAYA stores nationwide (as of February 24, 2012).

Comic rental services officially launched in April 2007, and have expanded to approximately 100 stores per year, gaining the support of users. One of the reasons for our expansion is that we operate on an average scale of 20,000 to 30,000 books per store, and we have gained support from customers who can find a wide range of works, including classic masterpieces as well as new releases.

When comparing the user base of comic book buyers with that of comic book purchasers, purchasers are mainly in their teens and early twenties and predominantly male, while rental users are mainly in their late twenties and late thirties and predominantly female, indicating a broader readership.

Another characteristic of comic rentals is their strong connection to movie viewing. We believe that comic rentals will lead to an increase in customers becoming interested in movies and the original comics they read, and we hope to continue sharing appealing comic works with even more customers in the future.

TSUTAYA, which proposes lifestyles to customers through books, movies, music, and more, will continue to expand its comic rental service, which aims to provide an opportunity for a wider range of people of all ages to experience comics, which connect these elements.
