ー"Movie Liberation" - A world where everyone can enjoy movies more conveniently, easily, and to the fullestー

TSUTAYA, operated as the franchise headquarters by Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda), is celebrating its 30th anniversary since its founding. As part of the service reforms it has been implementing since last year, the company will be reducing rental fees for older DVDs to 100 yen for 7 nights and 8 days in the Kanto region (1 metropolis and 6 prefectures), Niigata, Nagano, and Miyagi prefectures* from April 13, 2012.

Between 2011 and 2012, the ways of watching movies, dramas, etc. are becoming more diverse, with the expansion of BS multi-channels and the opening of broadcasting stations for mobile phones. TSUTAYA is used by customers as a way to select and watch movies from a wide selection, and last year 742.24 million DVDs were rented. In order to meet the increasingly diverse video needs of our customers, we have been working since the year before last to reform TSUTAYA's services as a cultural infrastructure for movies.

The reforms implemented at TSUTAYA stores include: (1) "TSUTAYA Unearthed Works," which re-releases titles not yet available on DVD; (2) "TSUTAYA Postal Return," which resolves the hassle of returning items; (3) "TSUTAYA Search," a smartphone app to check rental and inventory status without visiting a store; and (4) "Request Order Service," which allows customers to order from 150,000 titles if a desired item is out of stock.

In addition to meeting customer expectations in terms of service, TSUTAYA has responded to requests for a more convenient way to watch movies, and has decided to set the rental fee for older films at 100 yen in the Kanto region and other areas in order to further increase customer satisfaction and create a pricing system for older titles that is easy to understand.
TSUTAYA is starting its 30th year as a cultural infrastructure where customers can choose and watch the movies, dramas, anime and other titles they want to watch from a lineup of 150,000 titles that suit their lifestyle and life stage.
