—Growing into Japan's largest common point service with 40 million users—

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as "CCC") is pleased to announce that the number of members using its common point service "T-POINT" (hereinafter referred to as "T-POINT members") exceeded 40 million on May 10, 2012. The T-CARD membership count represents the number of active members who have used their T-CARD in the past year, and is unique, with duplicates (those holding multiple T-CARD) counted as one person. With T-CARD members accounting for over 31% of Japan's total population, T-POINT have grown into Japan's largest common point service, used daily by approximately one in three Japanese people.

Looking at T-CARD members by age group as of May 10, 2012, the growth in the number of middle-aged and older members is particularly remarkable compared to August 2008 when the number surpassed 30 million. Members in their 40s increased by 47% to 8.23 million, those in their 50s increased by 53% to 5.01 million, and those 60 and over more than doubled, increasing by 116% to 4.4 million. Furthermore, looking at the percentage of T-CARD members relative to the total population of Japan, it is 64.1% for those in their 20s, 53.7% for those in their 30s, and 49.5% for those in their 40s, meaning that more than half of the population under 40 use T-POINT.
On the other hand, when looking at the percentage of T-CARD members relative to the population by prefecture, Okinawa Prefecture came in first with 48.6% (1st), Kochi Prefecture in second place with 44.2% (9th), and Kagoshima Prefecture in third place with 43.7% (20th), showing an expansion of membership outside the Tokyo metropolitan area. Following these were Kanagawa Prefecture in fourth place (2nd), Tokyo in fifth place (3rd), Ehime Prefecture in sixth place (19th), Yamanashi Prefecture in seventh place (14th), Chiba Prefecture in eighth place (10th), Ibaraki Prefecture in ninth place (27th), and Saitama Prefecture in tenth place (18th).

T-POINT alliance companies have traditionally focused on distribution and retail chains, but since 2010, they have begun partnering with consumer goods manufacturers such as Bausch & Lomb Japan, YKK AP Inc., and Bridgestone Sports Co., Ltd. Subsequently, they have expanded their business to include internet companies such as Yahoo! Japan Corporation, Kakaku.com Inc., and Start Today Inc. Currently, they have expanded to include distribution and retail, manufacturers, and a common point service that spans both online and offline. Since 2011, with the aim of further expanding T-POINT service locations, we have strengthened partnerships with drugstores and supermarkets that have formed regional dominance, such as Drug Eleven Co., Ltd. in Kyushu, Ooya Co., Ltd. in Shikoku, Growell Holdings Co., Ltd. in Kanto and Koshinetsu, Yutaka Pharmacy Co., Ltd. in Kinki and Tokai, and Red Cabbage Co., Ltd. in Yamaguchi and Kyushu. At the same time, we have been working to introduce T-POINT services to small and medium-sized stores that are closely tied to local communities, thereby expanding the T-POINT alliance network in various regions across the country. The reason why the number of T-CARD members has expanded from August 2008, when the number of T-CARD members exceeded 30 million, to the present day, is that T-POINT are beginning to permeate the lifestyles of a wide range of people across Japan, mainly women and middle-aged and elderly people aged 40 and over, as well as across all prefectures.

CCC launched its common point service "T-POINT" in October 2003, and this October marks its 10th anniversary. Moving forward, together with our T-POINT Alliance partners—87 companies and 46,248 stores nationwide—we aim to create a common point service that will delight our 40 million customers who use T-CARD every day, further enhancing the value of T-POINT and improving customer satisfaction. And we aim for T-POINT to become "points that benefit people and connect people with each other and with society."
