Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. TSUTAYA Company

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd.'s TSUTAYA Company will be offering one free DVD rental per day for customers aged 60 and over at all TSUTAYA and TSUTAYA BOOKS locations nationwide, from tomorrow, July 13th (Friday) to August 12th (Sunday), 2012, in order to help senior citizens, primarily baby boomers, enjoy movies more. Please note that this offer applies to older titles that have been available for rental for more than one year since their initial rental date, and includes Blu-ray and VHS rentals. (Some stores do not participate.)

Since its founding, TSUTAYA has embraced the concept of proposing new lifestyles through movies, music, books, and more. In recent years, we have been particularly focused on attracting customers from the baby boomer generation (the "premier age"), and have strengthened our products, sales floor, and services by implementing features such as "discovered gems," "request-based special order service," and "postal return." (See attached: Table 1)

On the other hand, according to a "Survey on the Actual State of Video Media Users" conducted last October by Kinema Junpo Film Research Institute, 35% of people in their 60s, about twice as many as other generations, answered that they "have never used video rental services in their lives." Furthermore, about half of those in their 60s cited "not having the habit of renting in the past" as the reason for not using the service, indicating that many people have a preconceived dislike for DVD rentals.

This time, through our "One Free Old DVD Rental Every Day for Those 60 and Over" offer, we hope to provide senior citizens who have never used DVD rental before with an opportunity to experience the ease of using DVD rental, the wide selection of movies available at TSUTAYA, and the convenient service of being able to return them by mail, and to help them enjoy movies even more. TSUTAYA will continue to develop various initiatives for seniors in order to propose a "new adult lifestyle" to the baby boomer generation who have built today's Japan.

- The history of TSUTAYA's service development focused on senior users -
July 23, 2010 ■ Launch of the first phase of "TSUTAYA's Hidden Gems," a project to revive and unearth "truly interesting movies" from the 1960s to the 1990s.
For movie lovers, including those from the baby boomer generation, 100 film experts have selected truly interesting films, and we have launched a section in TSUTAYA stores where these films, including reissues of out-of-print titles, are unearthed and displayed alongside new releases. We receive particularly strong support from men in their 50s and 60s, who often use TSUTAYA as a starting point and motivation for their purchases.

November 15, 2010 ■ Nationwide rollout of "TSUTAYA Mail Return Service," allowing convenient store rental and mailbox return even without a TSUTAYA nearby
Responding to customer feedback that "returning items after borrowing them from a store is a hassle," we have launched a service that is available nationwide. We've also received feedback from elderly people who don't have a store nearby saying that it's convenient because they can return the rentals by mail even if they rent them in town.

April 1, 2011 ■ "TSUTAYA LOG" service launched, allowing users to quickly access their DVD/CD rental history and book/game purchase history.
In response to frequent requests from senior citizens who enjoy Korean dramas and other similar content, such as "I can't remember which volume I borrowed and watched," we have launched a history search service.

August 1, 2011 ■ Launch of "Return Date Notification Email" service to notify you of the scheduled return date via email.
This service sends you an email reminder of the return date for rented items, preventing situations where you forget the return date and incur late fees. We will also contact you if the return deadline has passed.

October 11, 2011 ■ Launch of "Request and Order Service," allowing DVD rentals from almost all available movies, anime, dramas, etc.
Some classic films and foreign movies were only available at large stores, which caused inconvenience to our customers. However, we can now order films from a selection of approximately 150,000 titles, allowing you to enjoy nostalgic films as well.

December 5, 2011 ■ Opening of "Daikanyama TSUTAYA BOOKS" in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo
We have opened a store that proposes a "new adult lifestyle" for the premium age group, primarily the baby boomer generation.
