■The movie "Wolf Children"
"Wolf Children" is the latest film from director Mamoru Hosoda, who has won numerous awards for "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and "Summer Wars." Aoi Miyazaki plays the lead role of Hana, and Takao Osawa plays the "wolf-man." The screenplay is by Satoko Okudera, who won the Best Screenplay Award at the 35th Japan Academy Awards for "The Eighth Day," and the character designs are by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, who is also popular for his work on the "Rebuild of Evangelion" series. The film brings together regular members of Hosoda's team who worked on "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and "Summer Wars."
Masakatsu Takagi is gaining worldwide attention not only as a musician but also as a filmmaker. The theme song is sung by Ann Sally, a singer-songwriter who works as a doctor while continuing her musical activities and is also a mother of two—an unusual combination. Furthermore, in order to produce "Wolf Children," they established the animation film production studio [Studio Chizu]. Hosoda's work, which continues to explore new possibilities in animation, once again challenges uncharted territory.
"Wolf Children" will be released nationwide in Toho theaters starting July 21st (Saturday).
