—A literary award is being held to find the "original novel" that will make a hit movie producer want to adapt it into a film—

TSUTAYA Co., Ltd., Nippon Broadcasting System, Inc., and Linda Publishers Co., Ltd. (in alphabetical order) will begin accepting submissions for the 1st Japan Entertainment Novel Award on August 1st.

The "Japan Entertainment Novel Award" is a new literary award that takes "film adaptation" into consideration, something unprecedented in the past.

Hit movies are being produced one after another. Almost all of them have a fantastic source novel or comic book to draw from. The newly established "Japan Entertainment Novel Award" is seeking novels that will impress producers who create hit movies and make them think, "I want to turn this into a movie!"

This literary award aims to discover new writers who can produce "film adaptation novels" that are overwhelmingly entertaining, imaginative, and feature unexpected plot twists that move readers. Each year, a prominent film producer will serve as the "Chairperson of the Jury," and for the first edition, Yuji Ishida will serve as the Chairperson of the Jury.

[Application Guidelines for the 1st Japan Entertainment Novel Award]

■Eligibility: Anyone aspiring to become a professional novelist is welcome to apply.
■Genre of work: We accept submissions in any genre, including mystery, science fiction, romance, horror, light novels, etc. However, we are looking for highly entertaining works that are consciously designed to be adapted into films.
■Application period begins: August 1, 2012 / Application deadline: February 28, 2013 (postmark valid)
■Results Announcement: August 1, 2013
■Judges: For the first round, film producer Yuji Ishida will serve as the head of the judging panel. Yuji Ishida is one of the most talked-about film producers in Japan today, having produced films that won the Japan Academy Prize for Best Picture for two consecutive years, "Rebirth" (2011) and "Confessions" (2010). In addition, one representative from each of the three sponsoring companies will serve as a judge in the selection process.
■ Awards: One grand prize winner will be selected.
■ Additional prize: The grand prize winner will receive a prize of 200,000 yen.
■Publication: The winning work will be published by Linda Publishers.
