—Blu-ray titles selected by women, aimed at women, now available at TSUTAYA stores nationwide—

TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), which operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide, has selected Blu-ray titles chosen by women that they would like women to watch, with the hope that "women will watch Blu-ray" this summer. These titles will be available exclusively to women from August 1st to September 17th, 2012, for 1,500 yen each.

In the project "Girls' Happy MOVIE - Recharge your summer vitamins with movies -" (http://tsutaya.jp/ghmva/), female merchandisers (responsible for product and store layout planning) at TSUTAYA headquarters selected 67 movie titles based on seven themes aimed at women. For example, under the title "How Movies Teach You to Create a Happy Life," we recommend titles such as "The Blind Side" and "Up in the Air"; under the title "The Ultimate Romance Movie That Will Give You Hints to Lead You to Happiness!", we recommend titles such as "Love Actually" and "Ever After"; and under the title "Movies to Watch at a Girls' Night Out to Boost Your Femininity!", we recommend titles such as "Dreamgirls" and "500 Days of Summer."

While the ratio of male to female buyers for DVDs is almost 50/50, with women slightly outnumbering male buyers, for Blu-rays, women account for only about 30% of buyers. Our research revealed that many women haven't yet experienced the high picture and sound quality of Blu-ray, citing reasons such as "not knowing how good Blu-ray picture quality is," "it's too expensive," and "not knowing which titles to choose." Therefore, we launched this project with the goal of giving women the opportunity to experience Blu-ray.

TSUTAYA hopes that this project will encourage women to enjoy their favorite movies on their home high-definition televisions in the high-definition picture and sound quality of Blu-ray.
