—Starbucks opens its first store in a library run by a local government—

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda, hereinafter referred to as CCC), which has been entrusted by Takeo City (Mayor: Keisuke Hiwatari) with the operation of the Takeo City Library (5304-1 Takeo-cho, Takeo City, Saga Prefecture) as a designated manager, has decided to open a Starbucks store inside the library based on a license agreement with Starbucks Coffee Japan Co., Ltd., in order to realize the "introduction of a cafe and dining area," which is one of the citizen values that will be realized at the Takeo City Library through this partnership. This marks the first time a Starbucks has opened a store in a library operated by a local government.

CCC and Starbucks Coffee Japan Co., Ltd. began with the opening of TSUTAYA TOKYO ROPPONGI in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, in April 2003. Since 2005, they have agreed to develop stores that combine Starbucks stores and TSUTAYA's book sections under the Book & Cafe concept, and have been expanding this new style of bookstore nationwide, offering cafe seating where customers can enjoy books before purchasing them while sipping coffee.

Through this initiative, Takeo City Library is developing the Book & Cafe concept further by proposing a new style called "Library & Cafe," where you can enjoy library books and magazines while sipping coffee, by opening a Starbucks store there. A new kind of library will emerge, one that offers a relaxing café-like atmosphere where you can encounter a wealth of knowledge, gain new information, and even conceive new ideas—a space unlike anything you've seen before.

Towards the reopening in April 2013, we will continue to plan and implement new library services that will be of high value to the citizens.
