TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), which operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide, will begin distributing online coupons for "Passbook," a new feature included in iOS 6, which was released worldwide on September 19th. iOS 6 is included with the iPhone 5, which will be released on September 21st, and a free update is also available for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and the 4th generation iPod touch.
With the widespread adoption of smartphones such as iPhones, online communication tools have become more diverse, and users can easily choose which communication tools to use. In response, TSUTAYA has been developing its Click & Mortar strategy, which it has been using since 1999, and elevating it into an Online to Offline service.
TSUTAYA will continue to support "a life with movies, music, and other things" that enriches everyday life, using familiar communication tools such as "Passbook" that are close to our customers.
■ What is Passbook(R)?
You can keep all your boarding passes, movie tickets, store coupons, loyalty cards, and various other things in one place. With Passbook, you can check in at the airport, enter movie theaters, and use coupons simply by scanning your iPhone or iPod touch. You can check coupon expiration dates and concert seating, as well as your cafe card balance (which is extremely important). If your iPhone or iPod touch is unlocked, the necessary passwords and cards will appear on the lock screen at just the right time, such as when you arrive at the airport or when you enter a store where you can use gift cards or coupons. Furthermore, if there's a change to your boarding gate after you've checked in at the airport, Passbook will alert you, so you won't end up lingering in front of the wrong gate.
