Voting for the "TSUTAYA Movie Fan Awards 2012," which selects the most moving and entertaining films from this year's theatrical releases according to movie fans, begins today.

TSUTAYA Co., Ltd., Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., which operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide, is holding the "TSUTAYA Movie Fan Awards" where movie fans can vote for the films they found most "moving" and "interesting" among the "Japanese films" and "foreign films" released in Japan this year* on a special website ( http://tsutaya.jp/fan/). Applications will be accepted via PC and mobile phone from noon today, November 12, 2012 (Monday), until the end of the day on December 26, 2012 (Wednesday).

This award is presented by TSUTAYA, which rents out over 740 million DVDs annually, allowing people to watch movies and other content. The award accepts votes from the general public. Last year, "A Ghost of a Chance" was selected in the Japanese film category, and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was selected in the foreign film category.

The TSUTAYA Movie Fan Award is the only award within the "Mainichi Film Awards" that is decided by public vote, and this will be the sixth time the "TSUTAYA Movie Fan Award" has been held.

■Eligible works: Films theatrically released for fee in Japan for 14 days or more between January 1 and December 31, 2012

■Prizes:  1,000 T-POINT for 100 winners
