— "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems Film Festival" April 19th-26th, starting at Theatre Umeda in Osaka —

Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., which operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide, and Tokyo Theatres Co., Ltd., which operates the Theatre Cinema Group, will hold the "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems Film Festival" from April 19th to 26th at Theatre Umeda in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, where they will screen classic films that have been revived as part of the "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems" project.

The "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems Film Festival" will screen six films in total, rotating daily, at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. These include "Reason," starring Sean Connery, which is a popular choice at TSUTAYA stores, "Baghdad Cafe," which features the memorable song "Calling You," as well as "Johnny Got His Gun," "Le Havre," "The Conformist," and "Underground." Additionally, following the screening of "Le Havre" at 10:00 AM on April 20th, there will be a special talk show where Jun Hamamura will quietly reveal some hidden gems of film.

"TSUTAYA Hidden Gems" is a private brand project in which TSUTAYA and DVD manufacturers jointly re-release and distribute in TSUTAYA stores nationwide little-known "masterpieces"—interesting films that, despite their quality, have not been available in stores due to reasons such as being out of print or not being released on DVD. Since the project started in July 2010, we have reissued and re-released 224 titles as of March 2013, delivering them to movie fans nationwide through TSUTAYA stores.
In response to the strong customer demand to "see these films in a movie theater again," just as with the re-release of films from "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems," Tokyo Theatres Co., Ltd. has procured the films, and in collaboration with TSUTAYA, we will be holding the "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems Film Festival." First, at Theatre Umeda, a long-established mini-theater in Umeda, six films will be screened starting April 19th, coinciding with the theater's 23rd anniversary.

Going forward, both companies will continue to undertake various projects to meet the demands of film fans, including expanding the number of theaters showing the "TSUTAYA Hidden Gems Film Festival" at Theatre Umeda.

Bobby, a young man, was sentenced to death and imprisoned for a certain crime. Eight years later, he coincidentally meets the real culprit in the same prison and writes a letter to a university professor in order to clear his name.

Saturday, April 20th 
10:00 AM - "Le Havre" (2011) 
A heartwarming human drama set in a small port town in northern France. An old man goes to great lengths to help an undocumented African boy he happens to encounter.

7:30 PM - "Johnny Got His Gun" (1971)
Legendary screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was forced out of Hollywood during the McCarthy era, directed and adapted his own anti-war novel into a film more than 30 years after its publication.

Sunday, April 21st
10:00 AM - "The Conformist" (1972) 
The story depicts the life of a young fascist who orchestrates the assassination of his university mentor. A masterpiece widely considered to be Bertolucci's greatest work.  

7:30 PM - Underground ('96)
This film depicts the history of war and turmoil in the former Yugoslavia, which began in 1941, through the stories of two men, Marko and Kuro.
