Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., the Entertainment Business Division, which operates a "SPA (manufacturing and retail)" business in the entertainment field with TSUTAYA at its core, has begun accepting votes for "TSUTAYA Masterpiece Rescue Team," a service that allows lesser-known masterpieces to be released on DVD for the first time through voting, and will be accepting votes until July 31st.
TSUTAYA Masterpiece Rescue Team will reprint works that are not well known to the general public, but that people have a special attachment to and that they "absolutely want to see" or "want to have on hand" based on the results of a vote. TSUTAYA online special page (http://shop.tsutaya.co.jp/dvd/tokusyu/mod_request/) and if a certain number of votes are received, it will be decided to make a DVD, and after subtitles and jacket production, it will be released on DVD.
The first round of voting will feature 42 titles (see attached sheet), including John Frankenheimer's "Seven Days in May," the masterpiece suspense film "Brass Target" about a plot to assassinate General Patton, Raquel Welch's "Kansas City Bombshell," as well as "Seven Men in Space" and "Women in the Wilderness."You can also make new requests for works that are not on the list. The number of titles available for voting will be expanded from the second round onwards, including newly requested titles, once preparations for DVD release are complete.
In recent years, with the rise in usage among the premium generation (mainly the baby boomer generation), TSUTAYA has been strengthening its efforts to reissue films in order to provide customers with forgotten masterpieces and films that are memorable to them.
Although there are interesting films that many people would enjoy, they have been out of print on VHS and have disappeared from store shelves, and there are also films that have not yet been released on DVD. In collaboration with DVD manufacturers and related parties, we are reproducing and re-releasing these films as "TSUTAYA Unearthed Great Products," and we are working to make them available in stores nationwide just like new releases. Since its launch in July 2010, the site has "discovered" over 200 films.
Additionally, since 2011, we have been working to reprint films that are not popular with everyone but that hold special memories for many people, through the "TSUTAYA Reprint Cinema Library," which is sold on-demand (made-to-order) in stores and online.
This time, the TSUTAYA Masterpiece Rescue Team will be aiming to realize reprints in response to customer requests, similar to the "Masterpiece Reprint Request" campaign held by TSUTAYA's Excavated Good Products in December 2011.
TSUTAYA will continue to work to bring to our customers not only movies but also music and books, works that have become an integral part of our customers' lifestyles and ways of living.
