-In response to factors such as the number of T-members aged 60 and over increasing 1.4 times compared to the previous year-
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., the entertainment division that operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide, has seen a 1.4-fold increase in T-members aged 60 and over compared to the previous year, and is anticipating an increase in usage among people aged 60 and over. As a result, the company will be stocking 150 "Showa Masterpieces" from the 1950s to 1970s in stores nationwide from January 22nd.
The newly added titles include director Okamoto Kihachi's "Underworld" series, such as "The Boss of the Underworld" (1959, starring Tsuruta Koji) and "Bullet Holes in the Underworld" (1961, starring Kayama Yuzo), "The Castle" (1965, directed by Masuda Toshio), starring Ishihara Yujiro, and "Your Name" (1953-1954, directed by Oba Hideo, starring Sada Keiji and Kishi Keiko), the second and third parts of which have not been available for rental until now. These 65 titles will be available for rental in the "Showa Cinema Yokocho" corner of the store.
TSUTAYA has been working on improving its product lineup, creating stores and developing new services, including "TSUTAYA Unearthed Goods," an initiative to reprint and re-release little-known classic films in collaboration with filmmakers, expanding its selection of masterpieces by Akira Kurosawa, Yasujiro Ozu and others, and opening "Daikanyama TSUTAYA Bookstore," a store aimed at the "Premier Age," centered around the baby boomer generation.
When comparing the number of T members by age group at the end of 2013 with the previous year, overall membership increased by just over 1.1 times compared to the previous year, but there was a tendency for a notable increase in members aged 60 and over, with the number of members in their 60s increasing by 1.3 times and the number of members in their 70s increasing by 1.5 times. In order to respond to further expansion of usage, we have decided to expand the introduction of ``Famous Paintings of the Showa Era'' at stores nationwide. This means that titles that were previously only available at large stores will now be available to rent at your local TSUTAYA.
