"Kabedon" has recently been a popular topic on television and in magazines as a heart-pounding situation that women long for. (Kabedon is the act of cornering someone against a wall and placing one or both hands against the wall, making a loud bang.)To find out just how realistic the "kabedon" behavior is in the real world, we conducted a "questionnaire survey on love" with 400 men and women aged 20 to 39.
First, we asked women, who are often on the receiving end of the "kabedon" (wall-don) technique in dramas and manga, "What kind of actions or situations from men make your heart flutter?" in a multiple-choice question. The overwhelming majority of women chose not "kabedon" but "being hugged from behind" (54.1%) as their number one choice. The second most popular answer was "quickly taking my hand when I'm in danger" (49.8%), followed by "patting my head" (49.3%). All three of these situations are actions that convey masculine tolerance, and it was found that these actions are able to capture the hearts of one in two women. Furthermore, the approval rating of "being slammed against a wall (kabedon)" among women was only 18.5%, and it was revealed that despite being a big hit in society, it is not such a thrilling situation in the real world. Looking at the results by age group, women in their 20s were significantly more likely to say "he smelled nice when we got close" (40.4%) than women in their 30s, with "he held my hand" (45.4%) coming in second place among women in their 30s.
●Top 3 situations that will make a man's heart flutter! All you need is to be natural
1st place: "Smile" (41.0%)
2nd place: "He smiles when our eyes meet" (33.3%)
3rd place: "It smelled nice when I got close" (26.7%)
Next, men were asked, "What kind of female behavior or situation makes your heart flutter?" with multiple choice answers. The top three answers were "smile" (41.0%), "smile when our eyes meet" (33.3%), and "smell nice when I get close" (26.7%). Compared to women, the results show that men are more likely to have their hearts flutter when it's a woman's natural behavior. Looking at the results by age group, the top choice for men in their 20s was "smiling" (50.0%), while the top choice for men in their 30s was "smiling when our eyes meet" (36.4%), revealing that even when it comes to women's smiles, men in their 30s prefer behavior that shows they are more self-conscious.
●What actions do women take to make men's hearts flutter? Women are really calculating after all!
1st place: "Smile" (42.0%)
2nd place: "Laughing when our eyes meet" (32.7%)
3rd place: "Slightly pulling the hem of your clothes" (29.8%)
Next, in order to gauge what actions people consciously take to make the opposite sex's heart flutter, we first asked women, "What actions have you taken to make a man's heart flutter?" in a multiple-choice question. The top answer was "smiling" (42.0%), followed by "smiling when our eyes meet" (32.7%). These are the same as the first and second most common situations that make men's hearts flutter when they see a woman, and the results show that women smile knowing what's going on in a man's heart, and that men can assume that a woman who smiles at them is aware of their feelings. Coming in third was "slightly tugging on the hem of her clothes" (29.8%). Although this action was ranked eighth among situations that make men's hearts flutter, it was approved by 24.1% of men, which shows that it does meet some of men's heart-fluttering needs. Looking at these results by age group, women in their 30s are less likely to consciously take action for men compared to women in their 20s, and when you consider that the average age at which women get married is 30.8 years old (according to the 2013 Demographic Survey), the results show that many married women are the type who "don't feed the fish after they've caught it."
What actions do men take to make women's hearts flutter? Surprisingly, men aren't the most proactive...
1st place: "Smile" (29.2%)
2nd place: "Pat your head" (26.7%)
3rd place: "Holding hands" (22.6%)
Next, men were asked, "What action have you taken to make a woman's heart flutter?" The top answer was "smile" (29.2%), followed by "pat on the head" (26.7%) and "holding hands" (22.6%). With "smile" coming in fifth place among situations that make a woman's heart flutter, "pat on the head" coming in second, and "holding hands" coming in fourth, it can be seen that there is a high probability that men's conscious actions resonate with women's hearts. On the other hand, only 10.8% of men consciously engage in the number one situation that makes women's hearts flutter: hugging someone from behind. This shows that the chances of women's heart-fluttering needs being fulfilled are quite low. The results also show that, overall, men are less likely than women to consciously engage in heart-fluttering behavior, and that in order to capture a woman's heart, they need to be more conscious in their actions. Furthermore, when looking at these results by age group, it was found that compared to men in their 20s, men in their 30s consciously behave in a more gentlemanly manner towards women, such as "holding the door" and "reaching for things that are high up."
●16.5% of people have experienced the "kabedon" technique. Of those, 30% "started dating the other person afterwards."
Finally, when asked about the actual state of "kabedon," which was the purpose of this survey, "Have you ever done or had a kabedon done to you?", only 16.5% of people answered "I have done it" or "I have had it done to me." This shows that while in the virtual world of manga and dramas it is a coveted heart-pounding situation, in the real world it is proportional to women's heart-pounding needs, and that the number of people who have experienced a "kabedon" is surprisingly small. We also asked people who had experienced the "kabedon" question, "What happened to your relationship with the person who did (or was done to) the "kabedon" afterwards?" 30% answered "We dated for a short period of time afterwards" or "We dated for a long period of time afterwards," while 30% also answered "Nothing happened," showing that the "kabedon" is not an action that brings about any major changes in the relationship afterwards.
