● 55.0% of people think that this year was fulfilling

78.3% of people feel that they have something left undone this year.

There are only two months left in this year. So, to find out what people can do in the remaining two months of the year to make 2014 a fulfilling one, we conducted a "2014 Questionnaire Survey" with 1,408 men and women aged 18-69.
First, we asked, "Was this year fulfilling?" 55.0% of people answered "It was fulfilling" or "It was somewhat fulfilling," meaning that the majority of people answered that 2014 was a fulfilling year. Among these, the percentage of women who answered "fulfilling" or "fairly fulfilling" was more than 10% higher than that of men.
Next, we asked, "Is there anything you want to accomplish this year?" 78.3% of people answered "A lot" or "A little," revealing that while 2014 was a fulfilling year, many people still have things they want to accomplish. Looking at the results by gender and age group, 40% of men in their teens and twenties responded that they "have a lot of things left to do."

●What did you leave undone this year?

1st place: "Travel", 2nd place: "Work", 3rd place: "Study"

When 1,103 people who answered "There is something I have left undone this year" were asked to freely answer what it was, the most common answer was "travel," followed by "work" and "study."While many of the answers were within the realm of what is actually possible in the remaining two months, the fact that "work" and "study" dominated the list of answers also gives a glimpse into the seriousness of Japanese people.

1st place "Eternal Zero", 2nd place "The Man Called Pirate", 3rd place "The Snow White Murder Case"

Next, we asked respondents to select multiple answers from the top films in TSUTAYA's annual rankings to choose the entertainment they would like to enjoy this year, including "movies you should see" and "books you should read." In the "movies" category, the top answer was "Frozen," which was a record-breaking hit among films released in 2014, followed by "The Eternal Zero" in second place and "Kiyosu Conference" in third place. On the other hand, in the "Books" category, the top spot went to "Eternal Zero" by Naoki Hyakuta, which was also ranked highly as a movie. In second place was "The Man Called Pirate," another book by Naoki Hyakuta that was also selected for the 2013 Booksellers' Award, and in third place was "The Snow White Murder Case," a book by Kanae Minato that was also made into a movie in March 2014.

●What home appliances would you like to buy this year?

1st place: "Futon cleaner", 2nd place: "iPhone 6", 3rd place: "Smartphone"

2014 was also a year in which new home appliances were released that made the most of the latest technology, such as wearable devices and cloud-based health management services.Among these, when asked "Which home appliance would you like to buy this year?" in a multiple-choice question, the top three answers were "futon cleaner" in first place, "iPhone 6" in second place, and "smartphone" in third place. The home appliances that ranked highly here are not particularly expensive, so many people are probably thinking about purchasing one with their year-end bonus this year.

●Where do you want to go this year?

1st place: Hokkaido, 2nd place: Okinawa, 3rd place: Kyoto
1st place: Hawaii, 2nd place: Taiwan, 3rd place: South Korea

"Travel" was chosen as the number one thing people have left undone this year. When asked where specifically they would like to go for domestic and overseas travel, the top three choices for domestic travel were Hokkaido, Okinawa, and Kyoto. Next, in the "Overseas" category, the top three countries were "Hawaii" in 1st place, "Taiwan" in 2nd place, and "Korea" in 3rd place. This year's end of the year will see a long holiday of up to nine days in a row. The results showed that the destinations chosen were not nearby but slightly farther away within Japan, or overseas cities where the yen is weak but are still popular among Japanese people.

What do you want to throw away this year?

1st place: "Cigarettes," 2nd place: "Clothes," 3rd place: "Cleaning the house (room)"

Before the end of the year comes the "spring cleaning."So, as the final question, we asked free-choice questions such as, "What would you like to throw away this year?" The top answer was "cigarettes," an experience rather than a thing, showing that people are becoming more health-conscious. The second most popular answer was "clothes," and the third was "tidying up the house (room)." These are the items that people want to throw away during their big cleaning, which is quite likely to happen if they work hard little by little from now until the end of the year.
