"Frozen" tops the 2014 DVD and Blu-ray rental rankings

TSUTAYA Co., Ltd., which operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide, will compile and analyze its own big data and announce the results for each category as the TSUTAYA Annual Rankings.
"Frozen," which ranked first in the overall annual DVD and Blu-ray rental rankings, has been popular with a wide range of people, both young and old, and has broken the record for the fastest rental number ever, surpassing 2 million rentals in less than two months since its release. Furthermore, as people began to enjoy the film with their children and grandchildren while singing along to the songs, the number of repeat rental customers and product purchases also increased. It became a symbol of a social phenomenon, taking first place in the annual overall rankings not only in DVD rentals but also in four categories: DVD sales, soundtrack CD sales, and soundtrack CD rentals. Additionally, in the foreign film category, the sci-fi film "Gravity," which won the Best Director award at the 86th Academy Awards, ranked first. In the Japanese film category, the domestic TV drama "Hanzawa Naoki" came in first place, and for domestic films, the top spot went to "Eien no Zero," a film adaptation of the original work by Naoki Hyakuta, which topped the overall paperback ranking.
