TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as TSUTAYA) has a nationwide network of six flagship TSUTAYA stores in major cities across Japan. In collaboration with Niconico, operated by Dwango Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as Dwango) and Niwango Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as Niwango), the company will begin offering doujin CD rentals from Friday, June 5th.
 Until now, doujin CDs (※) have not been sold at CD rental stores, and have mainly been purchased at doujin sales events such as "THE VOC@LOiD M@STER" and "Comic Market." Other ways to purchase doujin CDs include online mail order and in-store sales at some mass retailers, and they have been delivered to consumers through limited routes. As a result, the main user base, young people such as elementary, junior high, and high school students, found it difficult to purchase works casually.
Therefore, Nico Nico Douga and TSUTAYA will now begin renting out doujin CDs at six TSUTAYA flagship stores nationwide, focusing on titles that are popular on Nico Nico Douga, so that elementary, junior high, and high school students can more easily listen to doujin CDs. We will start by offering over 100 titles for rental, and will continue to add more titles in the future.
This will allow works that are enjoyed online, including on Niconico, to be easily available at brick-and-mortar stores like TSUTAYA, creating an environment where more people can enjoy doujin CDs both online and in person.
