Taiwan TSUTAYA Membership Exceeds 900,000; TSUTAYA Expands to 20 Stores in Taiwan

2015.12.10 Press Releases
TSUTAYA Co., Ltd.

TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / CEO: Masuda Muneaki / hereinafter referred to as "TSUTAYA"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / CEO: Masuda Muneaki / hereinafter referred to as "CCC") which operates "TSUTAYA" stores nationwide, will open its 20th store in Taiwan, TSUTAYA Asia Art Film & Video Bei'an Store (Beian Dien), in Taipei City on December 12th.

Since 2012, CCC has had a strategic capital and business alliance with Taiwan's CMC Group (Central China Group) regarding the international entertainment business. The first TSUTAYA store in Taiwan was opened when A-Gi Movies, the in-house brand of A-Gi International Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the CMC Group, joined TSUTAYA and reopened as a new TSUTAYA store.

TSUTAYA's franchise business began with the TSUTAYA Asia Art Film and Video Civil Rights Store (Taipei City) in December 2012, and with the addition of the Bei'an store, there will now be 13 stores in northern Taiwan, 5 stores in central Taiwan, and 2 stores in southern Taiwan, for a total of 20 stores across Taiwan. The store's performance has been solid thanks to the introduction of services that utilize the know-how of TSUTAYA in Japan and product lineup proposals based on database marketing.

As of December, the number of TSUTAYA members in Taiwan reached 900,000 (approximately 4% of Taiwan's population). We focus on marketing to members by sending coupons via HTML email and SMS and conducting member surveys, which has led to increased store usage. We plan to continue strengthening our marketing efforts in Taiwan by utilizing our membership network.

*Taiwan TSUTAYA members do not have a membership expiration date, so the total number of members is used as the basis.
*This service is not linked to the Japanese T-Card.

In addition, the online home delivery rental service "TSUTAYA Asia Art Movie Rental Network," which was launched in February last year, is seeing an increase in both performance and membership.

In the future, in pursuit of even greater customer value, we plan to create a store that combines a bookstore and a cafe, proposing a new lifestyle that is rare in Taiwan, and will provide customers with a place to encounter even more wonderful video content and books.
