Spring is the season of partings and new beginnings. In this T survey, we conducted a questionnaire survey of T members aged 18 to 69 on the theme of "graduation," which is the "farewell" of partings and meetings.
At the time of graduation, a graduation trip is an event where you can create final memories with the friends you spent your school days with. When asked whether they had ever gone on a graduation trip, the highest percentage of people who had gone on a graduation trip were those aged 18-29 at 55.3%, followed by those aged 30-49 at 44.3%, and the lowest percentage was those aged 50-69 at 28.7%. We found that as people get older, the number of people who have taken a graduation trip increases.
When we asked those who answered "I have been on a graduation trip" where they went, the top answer was "Okinawa," followed by "Tokyo Disney Resort," "France," "Hawaii," and "Kyoto."The places that ranked highly in Japan are often cited as popular travel destinations, regardless of whether they are for graduation trips or not, but among the countries overseas, France came in third.
What did you receive as a graduation gift? The most common answer was...
Those in their teens and twenties said "cash," those in their thirties and forties said "cash," and those in their fifties and sixties said "wristwatches."
Next are "graduation gifts" given by family and relatives to celebrate graduation from elementary, junior high, high school, etc. When asked to select multiple answers about the gifts they had received as "graduation presents" in the past, the most common answer among those aged 50-69 was "wristwatches," while the most common answer among those aged 18-29 and 30-49 was "cash," indicating that in recent years, "graduation presents" have shifted from physical items to money. The top choices by age group were "cash," "book voucher," and "wristwatch" for those aged 18-29, "cash," "book voucher," and "wristwatch" for those aged 30-49, and "wristwatch," "cash," and "book voucher" for those aged 50-69. This shows that the most popular gifts for "graduation celebrations" are "cash," "book voucher," and "wristwatch."Among those aged 18 to 29, gifts such as "smartphones/cell phones" and "computers" were also chosen.
When you think of "graduation songs," the most common answer was...
For those in their teens and twenties, it's "On the Day of Departure," for those in their thirties and forties, it's "Words of Wishes," and for those in their fifties and sixties, it's "Graduation Photos."
When we hear the word "graduation," naturally, thoughts of "graduation songs" that evoke memories for each of us come to mind. When asked to give free answers about what their "graduation song" is, among those aged 18 to 29, the choral song "Tabidachi ni Hi" (On the Day of Departure), composed by a junior high school teacher in 1991, came in first. Meanwhile, for those aged 30 to 49, the number one song was "Okuru Kotoba," the theme song for the popular TBS TV drama "3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi Sensei," which aired from 1979 to 2011, while for those aged 50 to 69, the number one song was "Graduation Photo," a hit song by Yumi Arai (now Yumi Matsutoya), released in 1975. Looking at the other rankings, the "graduation songs" show distinct characteristics for each generation.
What did you wear to your elementary school graduation ceremony? The most common answer other than "school uniform" was...
Women in their teens and twenties: "Blazer and checked skirt (AKB style)"
Women in their 30s and 40s and 50s and 60s: "Black or navy dresses"
Men in their teens and twenties: "Blazers and long pants"
Men in their 30s and 40s and 50s and 60s: "V-neck sweater and pants"
Finally, there is the most important event in graduation: the graduation ceremony. When we asked what elementary school graduation outfits were worn, excluding "school uniforms," the most common answer among women aged 18 to 29 was "a blazer and checked skirt (AKB48 style)," perhaps influenced by the popularity of idol groups in uniforms in recent years. For women aged 30-49 and 50-69, the most popular answer remained the classic "black or navy dress."On the other hand, the most common answer among men was "blazer and long pants" for those aged 18-29, and "V-neck sweater and pants" for those aged 30-49 and 50-69. This suggests that recently, perhaps in line with the popularity of AKB-style blazers among women, men are also increasingly wearing blazers.
