This "Reprint Produced Paperbacks" project asks "book connoisseur" bookstore staff at approximately 835 TSUTAYA stores nationwide to choose "paperbacks that they truly recommend right now" from paperbacks that are difficult to obtain because they are out of print or have no plans to reprint them. From the approximately 100 recommended works received along with enthusiastic comments, the highest quality books that we would most like to share with our customers will be reprinted. The series was first released in February of this year, and the total number of copies printed from the first to third volumes has already reached 162,000, an exceptional achievement for a reprinted book.
This is the fourth time the awards have been held, and the work selected as the best in the family novel genre was "The Ark Goes to Winter Land." This work was out of print, but was republished thanks to a suggestion from Yuki Yamanaka, a bookstore staff member at TSUTAYA Nakamanman store (Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture). For the republication, the cover has been completely redesigned to appeal to a new readership while maintaining the worldview of the original work itself. As the first work to be unearthed from the Chugoku-Shikoku region, it will be available in stores not only in the Chugoku-Shikoku region but nationwide, along with enthusiastic comments from TSUTAYA bookstore staff.
Furthermore, TSUTAYA Nakamanman store (Kochi Prefecture) will be holding a book signing event on August 21st featuring Yasuhiko Nishizawa, author of "The Ark Goes to Winter Land" (please contact the store listed below for details). We will create opportunities for more customers to learn about and enjoy this work.
At TSUTAYA Nakamanman store, we also hold a monthly event called "Book Night Party" where book-loving customers can participate and talk about their recommended books. At the event, Yamanaka and other book-loving store staff will talk with participants, and will also help to create actual corners on the sales floor for the books introduced at the event, helping to recommend them to more customers. In addition, following the remodeling of the store's sales floor in April of this year, the store has begun publishing a monthly newspaper called "Nakamashinbun," which Yamanaka compiles as editor-in-chief, containing recommended books and information on fairs and events. In addition to "Hon-Ya-kai," the store is also taking on new initiatives to deliver recommended books and information to customers in a variety of ways.
