The summer of 2016 is a time when Japanese athletes are performing brilliantly at the Rio Olympics and exciting high school baseball matches are taking place. The Obon holiday has come to an end, but the exchange rate remains unchanged with the yen continuing to appreciate, and some airlines will be eliminating fuel surcharges from April. In this T survey, we conducted a questionnaire about "overseas travel" with 1,504 men and women aged 18 to 69 who had traveled abroad at least once in the past three years.
First, when asked whether they had decided to travel abroad due to the current strong yen, 15.8% of people answered that they had already traveled abroad, 10.2% answered that they had decided to travel abroad and had made reservations and arrangements for the trip, and 35.2% answered that they were considering traveling abroad, indicating that over 60% of people have decided to travel abroad due to the strong yen. Only 2.5% of respondents answered that they were not going on a trip abroad but had exchanged foreign currency for their next trip.

When deciding to go on an overseas trip, the first thing to consider is the number of days and budget. When asked about the number of days and budget spent on each overseas trip, the most common answer was five days on average, and the most common budget answer was "100,000 to less than 200,000 yen" at 36.8%. When asked how many times they had traveled abroad in the past three years, the most common answer was "once" at 42.3%, followed by "twice" at 20.3% and "three times" at 15.4%.
