TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / President and COO: Kazuo Nakanishi / hereinafter referred to as "TSUTAYA"), which operates 1,478 TSUTAYA stores nationwide, has announced that it will be releasing a new DVD/DVD set for the hit movie "Your Name."Due to the huge success of this film, the number of DVD rentals for works by director Makoto Shinkai, who also directed "Your Name," has skyrocketed to approximately 3.5 times the number before and after its theatrical release. The book also includes the original novel "Your Name," written by the director himself. ' (Publisher: KADOKAWA) has been ranked number one in TSUTAYA's in-store book sales rankings for two consecutive weeks. Furthermore, the soundtrack by RADWIMPS, who was in charge of the music for the film, has been ranked number one in the overall CD album sales rankings (all genres) for two consecutive weeks since its release. This popularity is backed up by a survey by Filmarks, Japan's largest movie review service recommended by TSUTAYA, which found that "Your Name."' received 10,000 reviews in just eight days, the fastest in the service's history. We also found that the film received a high rating of 4.3 stars (out of 5) in a score that indicates the film's rating given by users after viewing.
"Your Name." is currently in theaters. "Your Name." is the latest work by director Makoto Shinkai, who has been attracting attention both from within Japan and overseas, and has grossed over 3.8 billion yen in its second week of release. The success of the film has spread to books and music, and the film has been the subject of much discussion, following "Your Name."" shows that Makoto Shinkai's worldview is supported by many people. He is one of the directors who will guide the next generation of Japanese anime, and we look forward to his next work.
DVD rentals: Rental rates for all five films directed by Makoto Shinkai are on the rise!
The number of rentals for the past five films has gradually increased this year, with the August 26th release of Your Name. When released in theaters, all five films saw sales significantly exceed those of the previous month. (See graph above)

Movie "Your Name."RADWIMPS' latest album, "Your Name.", was produced for the film. " is a collaborative album (Universal Music =music=) that includes four vocal songs, including "Zenzenzense (movie ver.)," and 22 soundtracks. The album has already started at number one on the Oricon weekly chart, and songs from the album have dominated the top spots on the iTunes charts. The main reasons people had for watching the film were "because it's a Makoto Shinkai film" and "I'm looking forward to the beautiful visuals," followed by "because RADWIMPS is in charge of the music," showing that their music is also a factor in the film's popularity. All TSUTAYA bookstores (813 stores) that handle books have a "Film Adaptation Corner" where they stock and recommend books that have been made into movies or TV dramas. Last year, many books that have been adapted into films were hits, including "The Boy and the Beast" and "The Story of a Girl Who Was the Worst in Her Class but Raised Her Score by 40 Points in One Year and Got Accepted into Keio University," and this year, "If Cats Disappeared from the World.""Novel Your Name. Since its release, the number of books sold has been more than three times that of the original works that have been adapted into films, and this trend is expected to continue strongly in the future. It is predicted that the number of books sold in the year of the film's release will surpass that of "Eternal Zero," which currently holds the record for the highest number of books sold in history. "Your Name."" is selling well not only as an original novel, but also as a comic and children's book, and is spreading to younger generations. In addition, the sales of the author's novels "The Garden of Words" and "5 Centimeters per Second" have doubled since the release of the film, attracting a great deal of attention. ■Director Makoto Shinkai Profile
Born in 1973, from Nagano Prefecture.
In 2002, he made his debut with the short film "Voices of a Distant Star," which he produced himself. The work won numerous awards, including the Excellence Award in the Public Category at the New Century Tokyo International Anime Fair 2021. His first feature-length film, "The Place Promised in Our Early Days," released in 2004, beat out other major blockbusters of the year to win the Animation Film Award at the 59th Mainichi Film Awards.
His 2007 film 5 Centimeters per Second won the Best Animation Award at the Asia Pacific Film Festival and the Lancia Platinum Grand Prix at Italy's Future Film Festival. In 2011, "Children Who Chase Lost Voices" was released nationwide, and presented a new world of work that was different from anything he had done before, winning the Excellence Award at the 8th China International Comic and Animation Festival's Golden Monkey Awards. In 2012, he received a letter of appreciation from the Cabinet Secretariat's National Strategy Office as a "Japanese person who is active around the world and promoting Japan."His biggest hit to date was "The Garden of Words," released in 2013. It won the Grand Prix in the Feature Animation category at the Stuttgart International Animated Film Festival in Germany. In the same year, he won the Shinmai Selection Award. As a next-generation director, he has received high praise and support both at home and abroad.
