In August of this year, Japan's super idol group SMAP officially announced their disbandment, sending shock waves throughout the country. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of SMAP's CD debut at the end of the year, a best-of album is scheduled to be released, with the songs to be included decided by fan votes, and requests for the album will close on the 4th. In this T Survey, we conducted a survey about "SMAP" with 1,502 men and women aged 18 to 69.
First, when asked whether they like SMAP, 50.7% of respondents answered "I like them" or "I somewhat like them," accounting for half of the total. Looking at the results by gender, 45.3% of men and 56.0% of women answered that they "like" or "somewhat like" SMAP, showing that women have a higher level of favorability towards them. When broken down by age group, 53.2% of those in their teens and 20s, 50.1% of those in their 30s and 40s, and 47.8% of those in their 50s and 60s liked SMAP, meaning that nearly half of all generations liked the band.
In addition, when the 761 people who answered that they "like" or "somewhat like" SMAP were asked to select multiple reasons for their likes, the top answers were "The members are unique" (55.5%), "They're approachable" (46.4%), "They're funny" (39.8%), "They give me a sense of security" (29.4%), and "They make me feel energized" (28.3%), with many of them choosing answers that are different from the image people typically have of idols. When these results are broken down by age group, "friendly," which was ranked third by those in their teens and twenties, was chosen as second by those in their 30s and 40s and 50s and 60s, while "interesting," which was ranked third by those in their 30s and 40s and 50s and 60s, was chosen as second by those in their teens and twenties, showing that the influence of each age group differs.
