2016.11.11 Press Releases
TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. / Tsumiki Co., Ltd.

-Your vote decides! What is the best movie released this year?-

TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / President and COO: Kazuo Nakanishi / hereinafter referred to as "TSUTAYA"), which operates 1,478 TSUTAYA stores nationwide, is collaborating with the Mainichi Film Awards, a prestigious domestic film awards organization, to accept votes from movie fans to choose the most "moving" and "interesting" film released in Japan this year to determine the No. 1 film from noon on Friday, November 11, 2016 until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20. To vote, please apply via TSUTAYA's special website (http://tsutaya.jp/eigafan2016/) on your smartphone, PC, or mobile phone, and 100 voters will be randomly selected to receive 1,000 T-POINT.

This voting was started by TSUTAYA, which delivers a wide range of films to movie fans, and is the only award in the Mainichi Film Awards that is decided by public vote. The TSUTAYA Movie Fan Award was established once a year to determine and award the No. 1 Japanese film and the No. 1 foreign film.

This year marks the 11th anniversary of the awards, and with the desire to deliver the voices of a wider range of film fans, TSUTAYA has also joined forces with Filmarks (operated by Tsumiki Co., Ltd., head office: Meguro-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Suzuki Takayuki; hereinafter, "Filmarks"), one of Japan's largest film review services recommended by TSUTAYA, and the awards have been renamed the "TSUTAYA x Filmarks Film Fan Awards."

In addition, starting this year, the voting format will be changed to one that allows movie fans to leave comments about their thoughts on the films, and this year's releases will be listed on a special website (http://tsutaya.jp/2016pickup/) and you can now look back on it. You can also view "Filmarks" reviews of the films and related works at some TSUTAYA stores and on TSUTAYA's special website.

Through the "TSUTAYA x Filmarks Movie Fan Award," TSUTAYA and Filmarks aim to communicate the voices of movie fans to filmmakers and to suggest works that will allow customers to discover great films.

[What is Filmarks?]
Japan's largest movie review service, with 20 million movie reviews recommended by TSUYATA. Based on the function that allows you to easily check and post movie reviews, it is used by many movie fans as a "movie viewing record," "memo and memorandum of movies you want to see," and "communication tool for enjoying movie talk."
