TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / President and COO: Kazuo Nakanishi / hereinafter referred to as "TSUTAYA"), which operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide, has compiled data on TSUTAYA users based on usage data from approximately 60 million T-members and will announce the annual rankings of the most popular DVD, music, and comic rental titles in 2016.

TSUTAYA stores nationwide have rented out over 750 million DVDs, Blu-rays, and CDs this year, and will be compiling the number of rentals to announce the most popular titles of the year in the "2016 TSUTAYA Annual Rankings."
Additionally, TSUTAYA stores have begun setting up corners linked to the rental rankings (note that some stores do not have such corners).

2016 Rental Overall Ranking

*The overall rankings for books, DVDs, and CDs will be announced on Friday, December 9th.
*Rankings for each entertainment genre will be updated on the above website on Thursday, December 22nd.

In the overall video rental rankings, "Jurassic World," executive produced by Steven Spielberg and creating a new world of dinosaurs, took first place, drawing support from a wide range of age groups. In second place was "Zootopia," followed by "The Boy and the Beast," both animated films that parents and children can enjoy together. In 2016, anime films released in theaters generated a lot of buzz and box office success, and it is predicted that anime films will continue to rank highly in 2017 as well.

In the overall music rental album ranking, back number's "Chandelier" took the top spot. In particular, RADWIMPS' "Your Name." was a huge hit as a movie. ' and Hikaru Utada's 'Fantome', her first release in about eight years, have been rented an astonishing number of times since they first became available, ranking highly. The results clearly reflect the current trends.

In terms of singles, Hoshino Gen's "Koi" took first place. This year has been one in which his multifaceted talents, from his musical activities to his acting and writing, have reached the homes of viewers all over the world. This year also saw a noticeable trend of theme songs for Monday 9pm dramas and movies, such as Fujiwara Sakura's "Soup" and JY's "Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto," ranking highly.

The number one title, "Orange," has been adapted into a live-action film and a TV anime, making it a beloved title that has been ranked number one for two years in a row. In recent years, many films have been produced, which has given the original comics access to a wider audience. "Tokyo Tarareba Girls," which has been decided to be made into a TV drama, has garnered great support not only from women but also from men, and is expected to rank even higher when the drama begins in 2017.
