■ Asian Entertainment: Overall Review of This Year and Predictions for Next Year: TSUTAYA Asia MD, Asaba Ochiai
Asian TV dramas began to attract attention around 2004 with the Korean Wave boom, typified by "Winter Sonata," and then period dramas such as "Jewel in the Palace" and "Jumong" expanded the audience to include men. Since 2010, the second boom has occurred, starting with the huge hit "You're Beautiful" and also thanks to the popularity of K-POP. In 2017, the much talked about romantic comedy "Oh My Venus," starring So Ji-sub and Shin Min-a, will be released in January, and in February, "Descendants of the Sun: Love Under the Sun," starring Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, will be released, becoming a social phenomenon that spread from all over Asia to the world, achieving a peak audience rating of 41.6%. In addition, it is expected that there will be a large number of period dramas overall, and many works will feature not only actors but also artists, making it a lineup that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Please look forward to it.

TSUTAYA will continue to expand its lineup of popular Asian entertainment, including Korean, Taiwanese, and Chinese TV dramas and movies, and will also be holding a giveaway campaign for the "Love Asia Book" and the "Monthly Asia MAGAZINE (http://tsutaya.jp/asiamagazine/Through publications such as the magazine, we aim to create a more enjoyable and comfortable store and lifestyle suggestions for movie and drama fans.
