TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / President and COO: Nakanishi Kazuo / hereinafter referred to as TSUTAYA), which operates bookstores nationwide, will commemorate the release of Haruki Murakami's first novel in seven years, "Killing Commendatore" (Shinchosha), which will go on sale on Friday, February 24, 2017, by setting up a corner for renting books and CDs related to Murakami, as well as holding countdown events and other events at six stores nationwide.

"Killing Commendatore" is Murakami Haruki's first full-length novel in seven years since "1Q84" (Shinchosha, 2009), and will be published in two volumes on the same day: "Part 1: The Manifestation of Ideas" and "Part 2: Shifting Metaphors."This is a long-awaited new work by Haruki Murakami, who has many fans (Harukists) not only in Japan but also overseas.
To get this latest release to fans as quickly as possible, TSUTAYA has prepared elaborate countdown events at six locations across the country to build excitement for the release. Additionally, some stores will be holding events for fans the night before, on Thursday, February 23rd. Book sales will begin at midnight on Friday, February 24th.
In addition, to coincide with the release of the book, the book corner will be holding a 10x T-Points campaign and a fair for previously released books, and from Wednesday, February 22nd, the CD rental corner will be setting up a corner featuring music that has appeared in Haruki Murakami's works, which will be enjoyable not only for Harukists but also for those picking up his work for the first time.

■Author profile: Haruki Murakami
Born in January 1949. Born in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Japanese novelist, translator of American literature, and essayist. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters, Arts and Sciences, Waseda University, he managed a jazz cafe before making his debut in 1979 with "Hear the Wind Sing," which won the Gunzo New Writer's Prize. His 1987 novel "Norwegian Wood" became a best-seller in two volumes. His major works include "A Wild Sheep Chase," "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World," "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle," and "Kafka on the Shore."He is also popular outside of Japan, and in 2006 he was awarded the Franz Kafka Prize. He has since been considered a strong candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
