Notice regarding the acquisition of Tokuma Shoten Co., Ltd. as a subsidiary

2017.03.21 Press Releases
Culture Entertainment Co., Ltd.

Culture Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter referred to as CE), a member of the Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter referred to as CCC), which is involved in planning and franchise development for Tsutaya Bookstores and TSUTAYA, as well as database marketing through T-Points, has acquired shares in Tokuma Shoten Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter referred to as Tokuma Shoten), making it a subsidiary as of March 21, 2017.

Tokuma Shoten has published magazines such as "GoodsPress" and "Shokuraku," which propose attractive lifestyles, and "Animage," a magazine that discovers and promotes Japanese anime creators, and has revitalized the market with its planning and editing capabilities.

Tokuma Shoten, a general publisher with a 60-year history, will become a subsidiary of CE, which owns several lifestyle publishing companies. By doing so, Tokuma Shoten will be able to further utilize the editorial capabilities, know-how, and relationships of trust it has cultivated with its business partners to create projects that combine with each of the CCC Group's businesses and produce more three-dimensional, new lifestyle proposals.

As part of our collaborative efforts with the CCC Group, Tokuma Shoten has launched the "Reprint Produced Library" project, in which staff at TSUTAYA bookstores across the country take out-of-print books and produce them for reprint. In the future, we would like to work on publishing publications in conjunction with CE's video and music businesses. Additionally, by utilizing the membership base and platform of the CCC Group, we will contribute to the revitalization of the publishing industry by holding events in collaboration with stores such as TSUTAYA and Tsutaya Bookstores, and by providing marketing services that utilize the T-Point database. CE will contribute to the development of the publishing industry by leveraging the high level of planning and editing capabilities that Tokuma Shoten has built up over the years and the resources and intellectual capital of the CCC Group.
