Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore, operated by Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as CCC), will open on the 6th floor of GINZA SIX, the largest commercial facility in the Ginza area, on April 20, 2017.
Tsutaya Bookstore operates as a bookstore that proposes lifestyles. This time, Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore will be proposing "a life with art."The merchandise and space will be organized around the themes of "art" and "Japanese culture," and the aim will be to create the world's largest collection of art books. In addition, the store will shed light on the vibrant culture of the Edo period and disseminate information about modern Tokyo culture.
In addition to selling art-related books and magazines, Ginza Tsutaya Books also sells art in a separate gallery space, sells Japanese swords, which are considered the pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship, and carries a wide selection of one-of-a-kind works, including the "BIG BOOK," which weighs approximately 40 kg and has an overwhelming presence, and a collection of erotic prints that have been reprinted and produced by Ginza Tsutaya Books.
The central atrium space, surrounded by 6-meter-tall bookshelves and bathed in sunlight from a skylight, will also function as an event venue, hosting art and cultural events every day. The opening event, which runs until the end of May, will feature works by Hiroshi Sugimoto, Kohei Nawa, and Mika Ninagawa.
The attached Starbucks stores an archive of art auction catalogs and art magazines from around the world. You can read the books and magazines available in the store while sipping coffee, and you can also browse auction catalogs and other items. We also have a "STARBUCKS RESERVER BAR" where we serve coffee and alcohol made with rare beans.
Just as TSUTAYA, which was founded over 30 years ago, popularized movies and music, Ginza TSUTAYA Bookstore aims to connect art and Japanese culture, which are often thought of as being a little intimidating, to everyday life through its friendly BOOK & CAFE style.
