The TSUTAYA CREATORS' PROGRAM (TCP), a program to discover video creators and project plans, is run by Culture Entertainment Inc. (C.E.), a CCC Group company that operates entertainment businesses such as planning and producing videos, publishing, and music, and TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (TSUTAYA), which operates TSUTAYA stores nationwide. The program closed its third round of applications on June 13th, and we are pleased to announce that the successful applicants have been selected after approximately one and a half months of screening.

This time, out of the 268 proposals submitted, 18 were selected to pass the first round of judging after a rigorous screening process by approximately 100 staff members from TSUTAYA and C.E. In addition, as in last year, we are collaborating with the ndjc (※1) to have two of the selected directors from 2016 participate, bringing the total number of directors to 20, who will advance to the second round of judging. This year, there were more female applicants than last year, and we received a larger number of proposals than usual in a variety of genres, including dramas. In terms of age, the largest number of applicants were in their 30s, followed by those in their 40s and 20s, with applications coming from demographics that have many opportunities to enjoy movies. The submitted projects were passionate and diverse, ranging from freshly themed projects by amateur university students to meticulously crafted projects from the perspective of professionals in the film industry.

Trends in this year's works (TCP Producer Daisuke Toyama)
This is the third TCP event, and we received a large number of applications this year as well.
Every year we receive many entries that reflect the current state of affairs, but this year the most common theme was "family."
In this age of information overload, it seems that many people wanted to focus on the community that was closest to them. The project, which added entertainment value to the story, was well received. Other notable topics included "memory transfer" and "AI (artificial intelligence)."
I'm looking forward to hearing directly about the passion that the contestants have for their work in the second round of judging.

Furthermore, IMAGICA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as IMAGICA), which has been involved in the video business for many years since its founding in 1935 and has been exposed to a great deal of high-quality Japanese video content, has agreed to support the aims of TCP2017 and will be sponsoring the event. This sponsorship was made possible by TCP's recognition of the talent of the creators it has discovered, and by actively supporting the award-winning works more than ever before, TCP hopes to help produce new talent together. We also hope that IMAGICA's techniques and technology will make the TCP's winning works even more appealing.

TCP will continue to contribute to the development of the film industry by producing high-quality works, while also considering collaborating with companies and personnel who possess the technology that has supported the film industry.

(※1) ndjc (New Directions In Japanese Cinema) is a project to foster young filmmakers run and implemented by the Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), an NPO that works to develop the visual culture industry, under a contract with the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
