This book features film recommendations based on various themes from film lovers active in various fields, including writers, film directors, actors, and comedians.

In the "Cinema Handbook 2018," 25 famous film lovers, including actresses Suzu Hirose, Eliza Ikeda, and Mayu Matsuoka, film commentator LiLiCo, comedian Takemasa Tsukaji, author Kenzo Kitakata, and film directors Junji Sakamoto and Hiromasa Yonebayashi, introduce their recommended films from all over the world, past and present, along with their thoughts on them.
We also publish our own rankings of popular titles from "TSUTAYA Premium," a popular service provided by TSUTAYA that allows unlimited rental of older DVDs from the store and unlimited streaming of videos (※1). The results are interesting, as many timeless classics that cannot be viewed on other flat-rate video streaming services made the list, and are unique to TSUTAYA Premium, which allows you to rent as many old DVDs as you want from the store.
Starting Monday, April 23rd, applications for "TSUTAYA Premium" will be accepted online, allowing customers to try out the service conveniently and affordably with the first month free (※2).
In addition, TSUTAYA will be posting recommended movies every day on its official Twitter account during the Golden Week period (April 28th to May 6th). We will be offering suggestions for enjoying the holidays with movies, such as Showa-era masterpieces that will remain in film history on Showa Day, and highly acclaimed films with green jackets on Greenery Day.
