-Let's give a book that conveys the feelings parents want to convey to their children-
The "Parent-Child Day Bookstore Project: Connecting through Books" will be holding a "Give a Book" fair on Parent-Child Day from July 1st at participating bookstores (approximately 900 stores nationwide) to propose a new custom in which parents can give their children a book filled with feelings that they normally find difficult to put into words. (Available at some stores from June 23rd)

The "Parent-Child Day Bookstore Project: Connecting through Books" was launched in 2018 and is led by TSUTAYA Co., Ltd., with Asahi Bookstore, Libro, Parco Book Center, Yomuyomu, Tadaya, Orion Shobo, and BOOKS Emitas participating. This project proposes a new custom that transcends the boundaries of bookstores, where parents give their children books that convey the feelings they want to share on Parent-Child Day.
According to a "Reading Questionnaire Survey" (conducted by Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd.'s "T Survey") conducted among 1,002 parents with junior high and high school children, 40% of parents said they would like to give their children a book. Furthermore, the top gift that parents with junior high school students (aged 13-15) would like to give to their children on Parent-Child Day was a book. This also shows that there are many parents who want to convey some kind of message to their children at this impressionable age through books.
At the "Give a Book" fair on "Parent-Child Day," there will be a corner featuring recommended books by bookstores and cooperating publishers for "books parents would like to give to their children." Bookmarks on which you can write your own message and original book covers will also be distributed free of charge. This fair is aimed at parents who, despite having many things they want to say to their children, are unable to convey their "feelings" due to reasons such as a lack of conversation, lack of timing, or being too embarrassed to say them face to face.
Additionally, with the cooperation of various publishers, we have received recommendations for books that would make good gifts for Parent-Child Day. Please use this as a reference when choosing a book. (List of selected books:http://oyako.org/news/2018/06/sensyo/)
The "Parent-Child Day Bookstore Project: Connecting through Books" will continue to use Parent-Child Day as an opportunity to encourage parents to give their children books that convey the thoughts they want to pass on and the memories they want to leave behind. This will continue to advocate a new custom that will deepen family bonds in each parent and child's own way.

■What is Oyako Day? http://oyako.org
Bruce Osborne, the photographer and originator of Oyako Day, proposed the fourth Sunday of July as Oyako Day, with the idea of "looking at the relationship between parents and children, who meet for the first time in their lives, paying respect to the family, community, society, and the entire environment, including nature, and praying for peace."Reaffirming the basic relationship between parent and child, which is given to everyone, can be an opportunity to regain confidence in one's existence and can also lead to a desire as human beings to care for the global environment. "Parent-Child Day" is a gift to the future that we all raise together.
