TSUTAYA Co., Ltd.

TSUTAYA Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / Representative Director, President and COO: Nakanishi Kazuo / hereinafter referred to as "TSUTAYA") has acquired shares in both Asahi Bookstores Co., Ltd. (Head office: Kita-ku, Osaka / Representative Director, President and COO: Waki Takahiro) and Tokyo Asahi Bookstores Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo / Representative Director, President and COO: Waki Takahiro), making them subsidiaries as of April 1, 2019.

Asahi Bookstore was founded in front of JR Osaka Station in 1946 with the hope of reviving Japanese culture. Since then, the company has expanded as a national chain, with bases in Osaka and Tokyo, as well as Hong Kong, and has continued to actively expand, including opening stores in train station terminals. Currently, we have 13 stores in Japan and 1 store overseas.

Our collaborative efforts with TSUTAYA began with the introduction of the T-Point Program in 2015, and in 2018, TSUTAYA joined the TSUTAYA BOOK NETWORK (※1). Together, we have created a bookstore that serves as a "place for lifestyle suggestions," by developing products and selecting books based on consumer trend analysis using a database, holding joint fairs, and developing TSUTAYA original products.

Asahi Bookstore, a long-established bookstore with over 70 years of history, will now become a subsidiary of TSUTAYA. By further leveraging the bookstore management know-how, abundant human resources, and relationships of trust with customers that it has cultivated over the years, and combining this with TSUTAYA's unique database, marketing, and planning capabilities and the resources and intellectual capital of the CCC Group, we will accelerate the creation of a bookstore that proposes new lifestyles that are valuable to customers and create opportunities for customers to encounter high-quality works.
