The fourth Sunday of July, July 28th, is "Oyako Day.""Parent-Child Day" is a commemorative day that was started by photographer Bruce Osborne with the idea that "it would be wonderful if parents and children could face each other together, and that the bond between all parents and children could be strengthened through this day."Following on from last year, this year's T Survey, in honor of Parent-Child Day, involved a survey on parent-child relationships and reading, targeting 904 men and women with children between the ages of 12 and 22.
First, when asked whether the parent-child relationship was harmonious, 57.9% answered "I think it is harmonious," while 31.6% answered "I think it is somewhat harmonious." In total, it was found that 90% of parents perceived their relationship with their children to be harmonious. The results were similar regardless of the child's age, with 88.7% of those who answered "I think it's harmonious" or "I think it's somewhat harmonious" if their child is a junior high school student, 88.0% of those who are a high school student, and 91.7% of those aged 18-22. In addition, when looking at the amount of reading parents do and the parent-child relationship, 40% of those who answered that they think their parent-child relationship is "harmonious" answered that they "read books often (more than 5 books per month)" or "read books occasionally (1 to 4 books per month)," while just under 40% of those who answered that their parent-child relationship is "not harmonious" answered that they "don't read books at all."Next, we asked whether they were communicating sufficiently with their children. 39.0% answered "I think so," and 38.2% answered "I think so to some extent." In total, 80% of parents and children answered that they were communicating well with their children.

When asked to select multiple options for what they would like to give to their children on Parent-Child Day, the top answer was "clothes and shoes," followed by "books" and "a meal at a restaurant."Looking at the results by age of the child, for junior high school students, the top five were "books," "meals at restaurants," "study supplies and stationery," "gift certificates, stationery vouchers and book vouchers," and "sports equipment" and "clothes and shoes."On the other hand, for high school-aged children, the top five answers were "clothing and shoes," "meals at restaurants, etc.", "books," "sports equipment," and "CDs and DVDs," and "gift certificates, stationery and book vouchers." For children aged 18-22, the top five answers were "clothing and shoes," "meals at restaurants, etc.", "books," "gift certificates, stationery and book vouchers," and "cash."
