-Let's give a book that conveys the feelings parents want to convey to their children-

The "Parent-Child Day Bookstore Project: Connecting through Books" will be holding a "Give a Book" fair on Parent-Child Day at participating bookstores nationwide from July 1st, proposing a new custom in which parents can give their children a book filled with feelings that they normally find difficult to put into words.

The "Parent-Child Day Bookstore Project: Connecting through Books" was launched in 2018 and is led by TSUTAYA Co., Ltd., with Asahi Bookstore, BOOKS Emitas, Tadaya, and Futago no Liondo participating. This project proposes a new custom that transcends the boundaries of bookstores, where parents give their children books that convey the feelings they want to share on Parent-Child Day.

According to a "Survey on Parent-Child Relationships and Books" (conducted by Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd.'s "T Survey") conducted among 904 parents with junior high and high school students, for the second year in a row, the number one gift that parents with junior high school students (aged 13-15) wanted to give to their children on Parent-Child Day was "books."This also shows expectations for communication through books, such as wanting to convey feelings to impressionable children through books, and wanting them to discover new values by reading books.

At the "Give a Book" fair on Parent-Child Day, there will be a corner featuring recommended books from bookstores and cooperating publishers for "books parents would like to give to their children," as well as free distribution of message bookmarks on which you can write your own message, and original book covers. This fair is aimed at parents who, despite having many things they want to say to their children, are unable to convey these feelings due to reasons such as a lack of conversation, lack of timing, or being too embarrassed to say them face to face.

In addition, the special website "Give a Book on Parent-Child Day" features recommended books from various publishers and booksellers. In addition, as part of the "#Parent-Child Day Twitter Campaign Connected by Books," we are collecting stories on Twitter about books for parents and children, such as memorable books given to children by their parents, books that children would like to give to their children at a turning point in their lives, and books that children would like to give to their parents now that they are adults. Please post your stories with the hashtag "Parent-Child Day Connected by Books."

The "Parent-Child Day Bookstore Project: Connecting through Books" will continue to use Parent-Child Day as an opportunity to encourage parents to give their children books that convey the thoughts they want to pass on and the memories they want to leave behind. This will continue to advocate a new custom that will deepen family bonds in each parent and child's own way.

Bruce Osborne, the photographer and originator of Oyako Day, proposed the fourth Sunday of July as Oyako Day, with the idea of "looking at the relationship between parents and children, who meet for the first time in their lives, paying respect to the family, community, society, and the entire environment, including nature, and praying for peace."Reaffirming the basic relationship between parent and child, which is given to everyone, can be an opportunity to regain confidence in one's existence and can also lead to a desire as human beings to care for the global environment. "Parent-Child Day" is a gift to the future that we all raise together.
