- A festival that spreads the appeal and potential of bookstores

The Book Fair Executive Committee will be holding the Futako Tamagawa Book Fair, a festival that will bring together 40 unique bookstores to promote the appeal and potential of bookstores, at the Futako Tamagawa Rise Galleria on Friday, January 31st and Saturday, February 1st.

The Futako Tamagawa Book Fair was planned by Hiromitsu Kitada, the book concierge at Futako Tamagawa Tsutaya Electrics, and was held with the cooperation of various bookstores, with the formation of an executive committee.
The number of bookstores in Japan, which exceeded 20,000 in 2000, has halved to 11,000 in 2018, and we see news reports that suggest a decline in the momentum of the publishing and bookstore industry.However, on the other hand, there are also activities that spread the potential of books and bookstores, such as the birth of unique independent bookstores, community events held in bookstores, and original publishing. The Executive Committee believes that the source of such activities is booksellers and store owners, and so called on booksellers and store owners who are engaged in appealing activities to participate in this event. The exhibitors are from a variety of different backgrounds, including major chain bookstores, independent bookstores, and bookstores that do not have physical stores but operate through websites and events, but these 40 stores all have one thing in common: attractive people, products, and activities.
On the day of the event, there will be a stamp rally for purchasers and gifts will be available, as well as food trucks and live music, so there will be more to enjoy besides just touring the bookstores.
The Bookstore Expo Executive Committee will promote the appeal of books and bookstores so that visitors to the Futakotamagawa Bookstore Expo will be able to discover fascinating books and bookstores and find their own favorite and one-of-a-kind bookstore.
