-The "School General Election Project" connects junior and senior high school students and those in their 20s with politics and society-
CCC Marketing Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kazuhiko Kitamura) and T-Point Japan (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hiroaki Nagashima) have launched the "School General Election Project" (), a social project that connects the younger generation, from junior high and high school students to those in their 20s, who will be responsible for the future, with politics and society. https://youthvote.tsite.jp/) is currently being worked on.
The "School General Election Project" solicited online votes from Friday, November 20th to Sunday, December 6th, 2020, in support of the "introduction of a system of optional separate surnames for married couples," and received 8,892 votes from men and women aged 14 to 29 from across the country.
The results showed that 70% of men in their teens and twenties were in favor of introducing a system of optional separate surnames for married couples (73.4%), 90% of women in their teens and twenties were in favor (92.6%), and 90% of those who selected "other" as their gender were in favor (93.5%).
Reasons for voting "yes" included, "There is no need to change the name even though we are in the same position (male, 20 years old)" and "Since it is "optional," I think it would be better if people who need it could choose from each option."(Female, 18 years old) "Currently, it's only women who are changing their surnames. There is a strong trend that women should change their surnames, and this will not change unless it is stipulated by law. (Female, 20 years old) and "It is a matter of personal freedom as to which surname to use (Other, 22 years old)."
On the other hand, reasons for voting "no" included, "After all, the same surname is better for proving parentage and family ties (male, 16 years old)" and "There is no need to get rid of Japan's traditional culture."It is said that Japan is the only country in the world where same surnames are required, so why do we need to follow other countries? (Female, 24 years old) "Personally, I think married couples should be able to choose their surnames however they like, but I am concerned that a major issue may arise regarding what surnames children of couples with different surnames should have. (Other, 20 years old)" were some of the responses.
Through the "School General Election Project," CCC Marketing and T-Point Japan aim to foster "global citizenship" among young people, enabling them to proactively engage in, make decisions about, and take action on social issues, leading to the achievement of SDG Goal 4: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all."With "UNIQUE DATA, SMALL HAPPY" as our group mission, we will continue to work to create new social value, aiming for "T" to be a presence that "connects people and society."
<"School General Election" service overview>
・Project name: School General Election Project
・Project site:https://youthvote.tsite.jp/
・Project start date: Tuesday, October 13, 2020
・Project details: The "School General Election Project" is based on CCC's founding intention of "providing a base for providing young people with information on new lifestyles," and is a "place" where young people who will be responsible for the future can co-create new discoveries and ideas that will serve as the foundation for living in the future. Aimed at the younger generation, from junior high and high school students to those in their 20s, we will raise themes related to issues affecting the future generation of young people from a wide range of areas, from politics and social issues to higher education and school, and provide neutral information on the issues raised and a forum for deeper dialogue among people of the same generation. By actually "voting" on the website, we will create an opportunity for each junior and senior high school student to take an active role and express their opinions. We also plan to publish articles on note reporting on the voting results that compile the "voices" of junior and senior high school students, as well as interviews with experts, and provide a forum for planning and holding dialogue with opinion leaders.
