30% of people are aware of Father's Day (50% for Mother's Day) and 60% have given gifts to their fathers on Father's Day (90% for Mother's Day).

June 20th is Father's Day. Therefore, in this T Survey, following on from the Mother's Day survey, we conducted a survey on Father's Day targeting 1,003 men aged 20 to 69 with children.
First, when asked about their awareness of Father's Day, the total number of people who answered "very conscious" or "somewhat conscious" was 26.2%, indicating that compared to the 50% who answered "Mother's Day," very few fathers are conscious of Father's Day on a daily basis.
Additionally, when asked whether they themselves had ever given a gift to their father on Father's Day, 63.9% answered "yes," indicating that giving gifts to fathers is still not as common as it was on Mother's Day, at 90%. Looking at these results by age group in particular, 70% of men in their 20s to 40s answered that they had given their fathers a gift on Father's Day, while the number was only 50% of those in their 60s. Considering that Father's Day was not established as a national holiday in the United States until 1972, about 60 years after Mother's Day, it is clear that it will take some time for Father's Day to become as popular as Mother's Day.

What do people want for Father's Day? 1st place: "Words of thanks, appreciation, love, etc." 2nd place: "A child's smile." 3rd place: "Alcohol." The things people actually received that made them happy were "letters/messages," "words of thanks, appreciation, love, etc." and "dining out."

Next, those who answered that they "want" or "don't care" to receive a gift from their children on Father's Day were asked to select multiple options for what they would like from their children. The top answer was "words of gratitude, praise, love, etc." (29.9%), followed by "my child's smile" (25.2%), "alcohol" (21.5%), "eating out" (21.3%), and "letters/messages" (19.7%). Just as with Mother's Day, it turns out that many fathers want experiences rather than things from their children. When asked what kind of gifts they would be happy to receive from their children on Father's Day in the past, the top answer was "letters/messages" (14.2%), followed by "words of gratitude, praise, love, etc." (9.8%), "eating out" (7.8%), "letters/messages" (6.9%), and "portraits" (6.6%). All of these gifts were related to conveying the child's feelings, and expensive items like "alcohol," which was the third most desired gift, did not rank highly.

The ideal father is "respectable, reliable, and caring." In reality, he is "kind, responsible, and caring."

Next, when asked to select multiple answers about their ideal image of a father, the top answer was "respectable" (52.8%), followed by "dependable" (51.4%), "considerate" (47.3%), "responsible" (46.6%), and "kind" (46.3%), revealing that the ideal father is one who is solid and dignified. When looking at the results by age group, "kind" was ranked in the top three for younger generations, while "responsible" came in third for those in their 50s and 60s, showing that the image of a desirable father changes with age.
On the other hand, when asked what image they have of themselves as a father in real life, the top answer was "kind" (31.3%), followed by "responsible" (23.4%), "considerate" (22.8%), "humorous" (21.9%), and "warm" (19.6%), suggesting that in reality, men see themselves as warm-hearted fathers. When these results are broken down by age group, "serious" was the top answer for new fathers in their 20s, while "humorous" ranked highly for those in their 30s to 50s, and "responsible" came in first place for those in their 60s, showing that the way a father is perceived changes as they get older.

30% of fathers (50% of mothers) say they are able to communicate adequately with their children. The top concerns for fathers are their children's future, second place is their role as a father, and third place is their children's education and discipline.

Next, when asked whether they communicate well (dialogue and interaction) with their children, 28.3% answered "I think I communicate well enough," 39.8% answered "I communicate to a certain extent, but I think it's not quite enough," 14.7% answered "I think it's not quite enough," 8.9% answered "It's not enough at all," and 8.4% answered "I don't know." This shows that while nearly 50% of mothers communicate well with their children, fathers have difficulty communicating with their children.
In addition, when asked what they are currently worried about as fathers, the top answer was "my children's future" (31.0%), followed by "how I should be as a father" (20.8%), "my children's education and discipline" (19.6%), "family finances" (18.9%), and "how I should interact with my children" (16.6%), which are almost the same as the worries mothers are facing.

Which celebrity do you think is the "ideal father"? 1st place: George Tokoro, 2nd place: Masakazu Tamura, 3rd place: Sanma Akashiya

Finally, when asked to give an open answer as to which celebrity they thought was the ideal father, the top answer was George Tokoro, who had a wide range of hobbies including Setagaya Base, followed by Masakazu Tamura, who appeared in many TV dramas and sadly passed away recently, and Sanma Akashiya, who reigns supreme in the Japanese comedy world.
