-A wide-ranging introduction of over 250 interesting books from all over the world, past and present-
Yoshiaki Misato, the humanities concierge at Umeda Tsutaya Bookstore, operated by Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., and the planner of the store's book selection project, "Reading School," has published a reading essay entitled "A Thousand Years of Reading: Encounters with Books that Changed Lives" (Seibundo Shinkosha), which will go on sale from January 14th.
"A Thousand Years of Reading" is a reading essay that explores "why books are necessary in life" by freely introducing over 250 books from all over the world, past and present. Passages from various books are quoted in a way that aligns with what Misuna sees, hears, and thinks in his daily life, and these are connected in an undulating manner to advance his thoughts on books.
From these insights, the book offers insights into how to view the world through books and hints on how to discover books that will change your life.
Bookstore shelves have approximately seven rows, with around 30 books per row. This book is divided into seven chapters, each covering around 30 books, and introduces a bookshelf's worth of books. Each of the seven chapters has a theme: "Encountering books," "Difficulties in life," "Work style," "Money," "Food," "Happiness," and "Death."
To commemorate the publication of this book, a free paper entitled "Books We Want to Keep Selling for a Thousand Years" was also produced, with contributions from 10 booksellers from all over Japan. Please also read this book along with the book introductions that each bookstore staff member has delivered to readers with all their heart.
