"The Bookstore Job" is a book that takes a fresh look at why people choose to visit a bookstore, a place where people and books gather and come into direct contact; what bookstore employees look for in their work; how they utilize their individuality; and what kind of work they create.
Based around the phrase "A bookstore is a bonfire," which has influenced Misuna, the book is structured around three themes: "Lighting the fire -- creating a door to books in places where there are no bookstores" (Beginning), "Adding firewood -- creating new value from daily work" (Continuing), and "To keep the fire burning -- expanding the work of a bookstore" (Expanding). Misuna asks respected booksellers from around the country about new ways of working that can be seen from the work of a bookstore, and each of them writes down their thoughts.
Through the words of bookstore employees, this book asks and challenges readers to consider "what work is," and we hope that it will provide them with hints to open up a brighter tomorrow.

To commemorate the publication of this work, talk events will be held at Umeda Tsutaya Bookstore and Ropponmatsu Tsutaya Bookstore, inviting various guests to discuss the future of books and bookstores. Please join us.
