-Opening in a commercial facility that will play a key role in the "tertiary industry" of the Agriscience Valley Project (Joso City, Ibaraki Prefecture)-
Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as CCC) has signed an agreement with Toda Corporation (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Seisuke Otani) to join the TSUTAYA franchise, aiming to create a store that leverages the strengths of both companies. The company will open "TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Joso Interchange (tentative name)" in spring 2023.
The store will be located in the Agriscience Valley Project (Joso City, Ibaraki Prefecture), which is centered around the area around the Joso Interchange on the Ken-O Expressway, in which Toda Corporation is participating as a public-private partnership business partner. The project aims to contribute to the formation and development of a vibrant and unique local community in Joso City, with a focus on the themes of food, agriculture, and health.
"TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Joso Interchange (tentative name)" is a multi-purpose bookstore that offers lifestyle suggestions based on the themes of "parents and children," "lifestyle," and "food," and features a "BOOK & CAFE" style where customers can enjoy a cup of coffee while leisurely selecting a book before purchasing it in the store. The store is based on the concept of a "Second House" and was designed and supervised by SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE (*1), an architectural firm led by Tanijiri Makoto and Yoshida Ai.The store will provide a family-friendly space with play areas for children both inside and outside the store.
Through this store, CCC and Toda Corporation will contribute to regional co-creation by creating a place for tertiary industry (distribution and sales) that will bring together a diverse range of customers, as part of the Agriscience Valley initiative's sixth-sector industrialization of agriculture (※②).
*1. SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE, an architectural design firm led by Tanijiri Makoto and Yoshida Ai. Established in 2000. Since 2014, he has co-directed the group with Ai Yoshida. Based in Hiroshima and Tokyo, the company has worked on numerous projects in a wide range of fields both in Japan and overseas, including housing, commercial spaces, venue design, landscapes, products, and installations. Recently, the company has expanded its scope of activities, opening "Sha Shokudo," "BIRD BATH & KIOSK," and "Zekkei Real Estate," all attached to its Tokyo office. Her collection of works includes "SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE -Building in a Social Context" (FRAME Publishing) and her 20th anniversary non-fiction book "Beautiful Noise" (Shufunotomo Publishing).
*2 The 6 in the term "sixth industry" refers to the multiplication of "1 for primary industry" x "2 for secondary industry" x "3 for tertiary industry," as it incorporates not only the original primary industries of agriculture, forestry, and fishing, but also secondary industries (industry and manufacturing) and tertiary industries (sales and services). [What is the Agriscience Valley Initiative?]
At the same time as consolidating farmland owned by numerous landowners into large plots, we have developed a business facility that handles everything from production, processing, distribution, and sales. This is a town development project that aims to revitalize the region through the sixth-sector agricultural industry.
Toda Corporation was involved in the area from the planning stage of the project, and has entered into a public-private partnership agreement with the city and landowners, and is also acting as the administrative agent for the land readjustment project.
