CCC Marketing Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Makoto Tashiro) and T-Point Japan Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Keita Sugiura) have launched the "School General Election Project" (https://youthvote.tsite.jp/) and its mission is to convey the voices of the younger generation to the world and create opportunities for social change.

As part of the School General Election Project, a mock vote for the 26th House of Councillors Election, which took place on July 10th, was held between Monday, June 6th and Sunday, July 10th, 2022, in which young people aged 10 to 29 across the country were asked to vote online to indicate which political party they look up to. A total of 14,024 votes were received.

As a result, just under 40% of young people voted for the Liberal Democratic Party (39.6%), citing reasons such as "I often see on TV and in the news that the Kishida administration has been active and taking action, so I have high hopes for them rather than the previous LDP," "Based on their daily words and actions, I can't expect much from other parties, so by process of elimination, the LDP seemed the most decent option," and "They have a track record of working on policies as the ruling party, so they are highly trustworthy."Next, many young people voted for the Constitutional Democratic Party (11.7%), citing reasons such as "The status of women is still low in some areas in Japan, but I thought the Constitutional Democratic Party was promising because half of its executives are women," and "They seem like a good option to the extent that they can make education free and temporarily reduce the consumption tax."Next were the Democratic Party for the People (10.1%), Komeito (7.6%), Reiwa Shinsengumi (7.4%), Japan Restoration Party (6.9%), the party currently in lawsuit with NHK for violating Article 72 of the Lawyers Act (4.5%), the Japanese Communist Party (4.2%), the Social Democratic Party (2.6%), and other political parties at 5.4%.

When the reasons for these expectations were analyzed using text mining, the most frequently occurring word among all voters was "policy."For the Liberal Democratic Party, which came in the top three in terms of vote share, prominent words were "elimination," "Kishida," and "coronavirus," for the Constitutional Democratic Party, "free education," "education costs," and "same-sex marriage," and for the Democratic Party for the People, "campaign promises," "tax cuts," and "economic policy."

In addition, when comparing the results with a poll on "Political parties most expected" conducted in October 2021 (※1) immediately after the Kishida Cabinet was formed, the Liberal Democratic Party fell 18.6 points from 58.2% to 39.6%, the Constitutional Democratic Party fell 0.9 points from 12.6% to 11.7%, the Democratic Party for the People increased 5.6 points from 4.5% to 10.1%, the Komeito Party increased 1.8 points from 5.8% to 7.6%, the Reiwa Shinsengumi increased 4.5 points from 2.9% to 7.4%, and the Japan Restoration Party increased 2.3 points from 4.6% to 6.9%. Additionally, many young people chose "other political parties" because they felt there was no political party they could count on, increasing from 3.5% to 5.4%, a 1.9 point increase. It appears that younger generations have lower expectations for politics than they did last year.

■Comment from Hiroki Ishii, project leader of the "School General Election Project"
Looking at the reasons given for choosing each political party this time, compared to the past three online votes, there seemed to be a noticeable increase in voices praising their specific achievements and the process of their efforts to date. Even when it comes to individual policies, it appears that people are not only sympathetic to the ideas, but also consider whether or not they are truly feasible. For example, political parties whose concrete results and achievements are easily visible to young people and whose issues are clear have increased their vote share since the last online voting (timed for the 2021 House of Representatives election). This time too, the election was held at the same time as the national election, so I think another factor was that information about each party was easily available on television and social media.
At the same time, young people who base their judgments on facts seem to have a critical view of politics. "Policies that sound idealistic" that do not present methods for realizing them or their drawbacks, and strategies that rely solely on the image of a party or candidate, may not be very effective among young people.

Through the "School General Election Project," CCC Marketing and T-Point Japan aim to foster "global citizenship" among young people, enabling them to proactively engage in, make decisions about, and take action on social issues, leading to the achievement of SDG Goal 4: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all."With our group mission of "UNIQUE DATA, SMALL HAPPY," we aim for "T" to be a presence that "connects people and society," and we will continue to work to create new social value.

[Overview of the "School General Election Project"]
■Project name: School General Election Project

■Project start date: Tuesday, October 13, 2020
■Project details: The "School General Election Project" is based on CCC's founding intention of "providing a base for young people with information on new lifestyles," and is a "place" where young people who will be responsible for the future can co-create new discoveries and ideas that will serve as the foundation for living in the future. Aimed at the younger generation, from junior high and high school students to those in their 20s, we will raise themes related to issues affecting the future generation of young people from a wide range of areas, from politics and social issues to higher education and school, and provide neutral information on the issues raised and a forum for deeper dialogue among people of the same generation. By actually "voting" on the website, we will create an opportunity for each junior and senior high school student to take an active role and express their opinions. We also publish articles on note reporting on voting results that compile the "voices" of junior and senior high school students, as well as interviews with experts, and we also provide a forum for planning and dialogue with opinion leaders.
