Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Muneaki Masuda; hereinafter referred to as CCC) and T-Point Japan Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Keita Sugiura; hereinafter referred to as TPJ) have announced that they will open a lifestyle-oriented commercial facility with Tsutaya Bookstore at its core, "Shonan T-SITE" will be holding a fair for the social media campaign "#GochisousamaChallenge" from Thursday, September 29th at "GochisousamaChallenge." This campaign aims to reduce food waste and lead to donations to support school lunches in developing countries. The "#GochisousamaChallenge" is a campaign organized by the certified NPO Japan Association for the World Food Programme (hereinafter referred to as the United Nations WFP).
Background of the initiative: Does every Japanese person throw away one bowl of rice every day?
With up to 800 million people suffering from hunger, food waste, with one-third of the food produced in the world being wasted, has become a global problem. In Japan, too, approximately one bowl of food is wasted per person every day, amounting to approximately 5.22 million tons per year (2020), making Japan one of the world's leading food waste countries. This calls for a change in each individual's awareness and actions.
United Nations World Food Programmeis the United Nations' only food aid agency dedicated to eradicating hunger and poverty. We save lives in emergencies and use food assistance to build pathways to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impacts of climate change. In addition, since 2010, TPJ has been running a T-Point fundraising campaign called "Donations for the WFP School Meal Programme", and T members have donated T points equivalent to approximately 2.58 million yen to the initiative, which provides nutritious school lunches to schools in developing countries (as of the end of September 2022).
