■Comment from Natsuko Yokozawa
"I have always maintained the habit of reading three books a day to my children, and I was impressed by the advice I received at the first meeting, "Make sure to read the front and back covers carefully," so I have been putting it into practice ever since.
I used to think it would be difficult to empathize with children's emotions, but there are many things I can empathize with through picture books, so I enjoy reading aloud to them. I am happy to think that knowing about this year's winning works will greatly increase the amount of time parents and children can enjoy together. I would like to continue reading many picture books. ■Comment from Grand Prize winning author Yoshitake Shinsuke
"Thank you very much for this award. There are good and bad things in life, but what's important is the order in which you receive them, and I'm happy to have been able to capture that state of the world in my work as it is. I would like to continue writing books about strange themes in strange formats, providing a wonderful, wry smile. "

□ Award-winning work: "My hair is so messy"
A girl who wants to be a singer, an old man who realizes what he's good at, a girl who discovers that morning glories have bloomed... Especially in times like these, I want to find small hopes in my daily life. You might be on the page somewhere. Comment from Newcomer Award-winning author Abe Yui
"Thank you for awarding me the Newcomer Award. I created this book with the sea of Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture, where I was born and raised, in mind, so I am happy that it has been selected as a picture book that people will want to read even 50 years from now. I would like to continue creating many picture books. "

□ Introduction of the award-winning work "A Day in the Waves"
San sasan. I am the wave. it was a busy day on the waves. First thing in the morning, they send the boat out to sea and soothe crying children in the rippling waves. After playing tag with a mischievous boy, they have fun on the beach, which is bustling with people swimming in the sea. When you wake up from a nap in the afternoon. You know, you can have some strange encounters at the sea. If you come to the sea, you will surely understand. And when the sun sets, darkness falls, and the full moon appears...

The books were selected from picture books published in the past year by staff in charge of children's books at TSUTAYA bookstores across the country, with the hope of nurturing works at TSUTAYA that will be read for and passed down to their own children and that will still be read 50 years from now. This is a picture book award that aims to promote the winning works by displaying them in stores and developing them into long-selling books in the future.
