■Judges' overall comments
The thing I struggled with the most this time was deciding who should win the grand prize, but I am truly grateful that the project to discover a new business book award has turned out to be even better than I expected. Nothing has been decided yet, but I am currently filled with the desire to provide some kind of publishing support to today's finalists. While the publishing industry as a whole is in a slump, I hope to revitalize Japan through the power of books. We are determined to fulfill our mission as senior authors by producing future bestselling authors from here.
■Comments on each award
Grand Prize: "The Most Enjoyable Tax Lesson in Japan" (Keigo Sasa)
Thank you for the wonderful presentation. I was excited. This award was not based on merit, but on my honest desire to hear and read Sasa's presentation. He is also skilled in copywriting and has overwhelming content strength and marketing ability. I hope that by using the world of taxes as a starting point, this will open up a new world of business books and lead to the creation of many best-selling books. It looks like it will be a business book that can be read by a wide range of people.
(Executive Producer: Shigehisa Nagamatsu)
TSUTAYA Award: "The Art of Delegating - The Best Way to Delegate and Make People Happy" (Wataru Yamamoto)
The skill of delegating is a broad and deep management concern for many different people. The theme of "leaving it all to one person" may seem like a negative wording, but in fact the content has been carefully crafted, and I could imagine a content that lived up to the title. I'm looking forward to it!
(CCC BOOKSTORE Company President/Shinichiro Kamaura)
Chirayomi Award: "The Power of Apologies" (Uchida Yuji)
A new idea that transforms the negative keyword "apologize" into a positive one through the way you do things and the way you think. What appealed to me was that it was highly relatable and could be accepted by a wide range of people. I hope they will further refine it.
(Chirayomi CEO/Kazuma Saito)
Producer's Special Award: "Pushing a Wheelchair with High Heels" (Hatakeyama Orie)
Business books are very broad. In an age where even the way one lives is included, Hatakeyama's way of life is not just that of a "mother who struggled" but is important for Japan today. I am confident that this book will provide the kind of "inspiration" that is often forgotten in business books.
(Executive Producer: Shigehisa Nagamatsu)
Special Award: "The Habit of Doing It Immediately" (Takuya Mizue)
I could imagine him as a future star author who would travel all over Japan and deliver his message. The best thing about it is that it seems like anyone can wear it. I appreciated his star quality as an author.
(Subarusha Editorial Department Editor-in-Chief/Uezu Yasunari)
The grand prize winner, "Japan's Most Enjoyable Tax Lesson," is scheduled to be published as a book sometime next year, and we will be working with the editorial team at Subarusha to turn it into a book. In addition, the book will be available in a corner in the book section of TSUTAYA stores nationwide (excluding some stores), and will also be available in bookstores and e-book stores nationwide.
Through this award, CCC, Subarusha, and Chirayomi will continue to aim to produce business book authors with ideas and content that will enrich our lives in the future, and to propose self-improvement and rich lifestyles to working and living readers.
